| I had to get a new SIM card the other day and the guy at the store said the old one was a 2G card while the new one was a 4g card and my data service should be faster. How could a SIM card affect that data transfer rate? It sounds like BS to me but I'm posting through my tethered laptop and I have to admit the pages load smoking fast now. |

If you had a 4g phone he would be correct. The new SIM card might give you access to some faster services but your phone probably won't be able to take complete advantage of them. It's a G2 so it does have "4g" whatever that is (I know it's supposed to be faster data, just not the actual details) . I thought SIM cards were basically just serial numbers. |

you guys are sort of off....
its an authentication thing. A 2G SIM is fairly older technology and was made and only supports certain authentication methods. The newer 3 and 4G architecture has different auth methods. The support person most likely also upgraded your account to allow 3G and 4G network auth. Check to be sure they didnt change any contract stuff on you. Obviously your phone has to be either a 3G or 4G phone, and the network your phone is in range of has to be a 3g or 4g network, for you to see better performance. |
