...Is like if a sports team said to an opponent, "We've looked the stats. Don't even bother coming out to play. Let's agree that you're going to lose."

And then the opponent agrees to it. "Gosh, we think we can play ball, but the home team told us we're going to lose. Better not bother."

I wonder who the first person to call Palin unelectable was. My money's on an Obama voter.

Or the RINO blue blood elite who are afraid of losing control of the party to an "outsider".

[#2]
A more fair comparison would be if every one of your receivers said "don't bother throwing the ball to me, I'm not going to try and catch it", half your offensive linemen said "why the hell should we block for you" and your opponent said "when take the field we'll spill every drop of blood in our bodies if necessary to prove that your QB has personally walked into the ninth circle of hell"

A different, but excellent, point.

If she wins the nomination, then we will see how she does in the Main Event.  Some of her past decisions and statements will come back on her and the media will give them very, very wide attention.  I personally would love to see her as President, but that does not mean there aren't better candidates out there.

Ridiculous analogy.  The sports teams win or lose on their own objective merits on the field - who scores more.  Political candidates win or lose depending on the voters' perception of their strengths or weaknesses.  The fans don't vote to see which sports team will win.

Frankly, I like the lady.

However, quitting her post, and becoming a reality show star, marked the end of my being able to take her seriously.

I wouldn't want to see her as POTUS, and I doubt that I ever will.

There are no fans in the analogy.

ETA:

The home team says, "Don't bother coming. We've already decided you can't outscore us."

ETA2:

"Bench your first string QB, then we'll play you. That way it'll be a fair fight. Trust us."

Unelectable is the term the RINOs will use to not support - even sabotage - someone they did not want if they primaries don't go their way.

Tokyo Rove and Charles Bipolar Krauthammer are proof enough. The msm will be more than happy to carry their water in that regard.

That's the fatal flaw of the Saul Alinsky "Rules for Radicals", because they instruct the left to isolate the victim and try to cut them off from any help and then make fun of them with illogical accusations and usurp their power trying to fend off bullshit attacks.

The Alinsky followers will ALWAYS tell you what they fear most and then you can act on those fears.

I think this is the sad truth, of course I'm not sure any of the people who have currently thrown their hats in the race will have any better chance of attracting the independent vote and if they do they'll lose some of the conservative faithful.

Thank you, saved me the time to ridicule the OP's point, which if it were a political candidate would be Michael Dukakis.

Some people are, utterly, completely unelectable, solely and entirely based upon their perception in the media. Denying it doesn't make it so.

In truth, this site should be overwhelmingly in her corner, if she has a shot nationally. We are almost all male conservative gun owners, for fuck's sake. Can't carry that? What hope do you have with soccer moms and wishy washy folks who watch the MSM?

No, judge shopping liberals and the threat of nonstop litigation that would collapse Alaska's state budget in legal fees throughout the rest of her administration did that just fine. Why do you ask?

It amazes me how emphatically  and frequently wrong you are, yet you carry such a tone of condescension as if your word is ordained.

The active membership of this site should over-represent support for Palin, not under-represent it.  She probably has a larger following on a site full of right-wing, male, majority-demographic gun owners than she does in mainstream society.  Perhaps remedial statistics education should be a part of your future, not those who disagree with you.

really.  You're comical, and the personal attacks are even better.

Please note carefully what I actually said, not what you think I might have said.

I said this site is not a representative sample of the population of the US at large.  That is an accurate statement, and you agree with me.  Note carefully that I did not say anything about over or under representation...

This site is also not the bastion of social conservatism you think it is, nor do you have any idea what the true leanings of the membership here are –– only the leanings of a few vocal people.

in order for someone to be an attention whore, they have to have people willing to pay attention to them. She had a very high rated show, she draws crowds by the multitudes, people are willing to pay whatever she asks for an appearance. These things are not possible if she is the idiot and pariah the MSM tries to make her out to be.

I think that we will be pleasently surprised by the margin of victory she has in her next endeavour, whether that is as President or taking McCains job from him.
