That's the stuff we (Texas) exports.  Alamo, too.  Started here in Austin. I suppose you went to the one in Winchester.  I was up that way visiting a buddy when we rode (motorcycles) out to Winchester... Saw the sign for the franchise.  Texas - we export good stuff.  You're welcome.

I Don't like shiner cold, but love it at about room temp.  Give it a try you might like it even better.

I've been working on a case of Shiner Blonde this week.

Good stuff.

It is a nice compromise between taste and not being over priced.
6/5/2011 10:19:03 AM EDT
[#20]
Poor example of the style.

Texas beer at import prices, I'll pass. Shiner keeps discontinuing the styles they actually make decently and come out with shit like ruby redbird.

Maybe in Texas.  It is a pretty good beer, but up here it's priced like Guinness Stout.  Funny thing, The nose and taste reminded me of the Shlitz(or maybe it was Schmidt) I used to get sips of as a kid.

That's where i got hooked on it At Wegmans they have like 4 different kinds of Shiner.

See if you can find the 12pk family reunion. It has most of the different shiner beers in it. Kosmos=greatness.

Best beer they currently make yet they refuse to sell it in anything other than the stupid family packs.

Yup.  Growing up in Texas, it was great stuff for under $6 a sixpack.  Now that I'm in LA, at over $10 per, its appeal has lessened considerably

Way overrated.

6/5/2011 11:28:37 AM EDT

Over rated for the price that it commands.  For $1.25 less, I can drink Yuengling, for $1.25 more I can get Magic Hat, Sam Adams, Dogfish or equivalent.

That's about what it's worth.  Shiner here in Virginia is about $5.50, I just about fell over when I had to pay $7.20 in some one horse town between Greenville and Sulfur Springs, Tx.

Damn. Must be the bigger cities then. Its not bad here at all.

I don't like the black labels, the 99 was bad. The Ruby Redbird is great though with a steak.

The company only started in 1909 with Shiner Bock being available year round since 1973.

I can understand how you missed it

They dont like you using your wife's tokens either.   The old Lone Star brewery in San Antonio was a great place to drink a beer until its closure.  If you were talking to the bartender about your love of Lone Star he would just keep handing your tokens back to you.  every trip to San Antonio we try to stop in Shiner to get the trip off to a good start.  Back when you could legally drink iand drive and trucks had slideing rear glass....... well nevermind

Shiner Bock is decent, but Shiner Black is tasty.  Sweet malty goodness.  Goes good with full bodied cigars.

As in Saranac Black Forrest? From the Matt Brewing Company in Utica? If so, sir I envy you. I got a chance to drink some beer from them in Summer of 2004 and fell in love, brought many a beer home with me. Even their soda is fantastic. Some friends and I got to tour the brewery and I fell in love with the beer. But I haven't had a drop in seven years.

Yeah I can't get behind their Ruby Redbird for anything and actually had to discount it to $2 a bottle at my bar just to get it off the shelves. Nor do I like their Christmas beer, the Holiday Cheer, just way too sweet for me. Their Spring Ale wasn't too bad though, but I do miss the days of Winter Stock and Summer Stock. Their anniversary beers are a bit sketchy also, the current 102 is OK for a hot summer day.

Shiner Bock, itself, is OK but I've had my fair share of it and no longer find it my favorite, probably not even Top 10. My favorite Texas beer is anything from the Real Ale Brewing Company or Southern Star Brewing Company's Bombshell Blonde.

Ooooouch!

I got lucky when I went, I found a bunch of tokens in the parking lot that someone dropped. They were like 'How did you get so many tokens?' I laughed and said found them in the parking lot.

I wasn't driving, so they let me use those as well.
