I got a pair from Bass Pro for for $90. They are the waterproof low top version. The online reviews looked pretty good. Anyone have any first hand experience with them? I'm thinking of taking them in a trip next week.

I like my low top ventilators.  Real comfortable.

I've had the high top version for about 3 years. they've held up well, have pretty decent grip on rock surfaces, and dried out quickly when wet.
I like them.

Does the waterproofing work pretty well?

Yes it does.    If you have the low tops, and your socks get wet, it will soak through to your feet, but the shoes do great for keeping water out.

I bought the Moabs, and really wish I would have bought the Ventilators. There is a lot less ventilation and my feet sweat like crazy while wearing them.

I liked mine.  Although after a couple years (like 3-4 years of near constant wear) the insoles broke down to where they actually would cause my feet to ache.  Just need to put a new set of insoles in them and they'd be good to go again.

I have the Gore-tex XCR low Moabs and I love them.  Comfortable, grippy, and keep your feet dry.

Speaking of shoes named Moab, anyone remember the Nike ACG Air Mowabb?

Most comfortable outdoor trainers I ever wore.

For $100 I can get a new pair of European made hiking boots on Ebay, not Chinese made stuff like the Moabs.

I guess you'd really be pissed at the Nike ACG's these are replacing. I paid $150ish for them.

Your money, your choice; I won't judge you. I hike in a nice pair of Zamberlans for the same price as retail Moabs. Other good brands are Asolo, La Sportiva, Lowa, and Kayland. Check hiking shoe sites like Zappos.com to find out how the shoe tends to fit so you can get the right size. I know Asolo runs a size small.

For warm weather, you're better off with the non water proof type. Even with Gortex, your feet are going to get wet. When water proof shoes get wet they tend to stay wet. A good sturdy sole with well ventilated upper. Wear wicking sock liners and carry extra socks. I like New Balance trail runners. They make a low cut and a high cut.

As far as my feet getting warm, I'll be up in Minnesota from the 5th until the 13th. The forecast looks like it will be mid to high 60's in the day, and mid to low 40's at night.

I'm hoping it stays that cool anyway. It'd be nice not to get swarmed with skeeters.
