Are there any programs that one can download to check out and see who is on your wi-fi to make sure some fucker isn't leeching off your service?

I know I got mine on a long ass password and its in WAN2 or whatever it's called encryption. I see the thing randomly light up sometimes when my computer is idle and utorrent and such isn't running.

Just wanna make sure and have peace of mind.

the settings screen for your router should show you that

Network Magic had a free program that would show you every device. It is a Linksys product though.

Log into the router and look for DHCP leases that have been issued.

If you are using WPA2 with a good password you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

You also might be able to turn on logging on the router.  What model is it?

This.  Most of the web interfaces for WiFi APs have a screen that will show you connected devices.

WPA2 encryption

You should be able to log right into your wireless access point/router to see what devices are associated with it. If an unfamiliar device has an active DHCP lease, then you need to figure out what that device is.

There are other ways to do this, but that's what I would do for a quick check.

ETA: Whoa, guess I'm typing slow tonight

you should be able to sign into your wireless router and see what devices are connected

1. Download WireShark if you want to keep real-time dibs on what's happening.

2. Check router's connected devices.

All the routers Ive gone through had a "Device History" list. Try looking there.

i have mine encrypted and i went in and set my router to only allow a certain amount of ips to be used (4 as that is how many wireless devices i have in the house) and I only allow my known mac addresses to access.

if one of my meth head neighbors figures all this out, then they deserve free internet.

Also I wouldn't worry too much about activity when not in use. Your router and computer are always talking network background language. NBD.

Right, well I have my xbox 360, and after getting the wifi router all setup I got on to see if I could log into xbox live with it, and I had to enter the password in order to get access to the wifi connection.

I guess I am just paranoid.

Wireshark is hardly a novice level program for detecting network activity and connections.....
