Thats what my congressional district has.
Ever since giffords got shot we have been without a working rep in congress and NO ONE will DARE to say a word about it because she has been elevated to living martyr status. I have heard a few poor souls on TV and radio dare to ask if she should be removed or replaced only to be verbally beaten down and ridiculed for being a heartless conservative. She was a piss poor representative who BARELY won re-election and now she has a seat for life, might as well change her name to kennedy. So we can do nothing but wait for the hero of the day to return. |

I resent, then I resent again.
Seriously, though, she needs to be replaced. She clearly cannot perform her duties. That is not a slam in her, that is simply reality. She needs to focus on recovery, not her district. Politics is all about emotion, though, and reality is too emotional. |
| Unfortunately, nothing can be done before the next set of elections until she resigns, which she does not seem inclined to do. The Constitution only provides for the disability of the President. She cannot be fired without some sort of grounds like misconduct, committing crimes, etc., and I'm not even sure the impeachment process applies to legislators. If she is unable to do her job and does not resign by the next elections and then gets reelected, well, the majority of the people in her district can clearly be said to be really stupid. |

The U.S. Constitution does not permit recalls and does not provide for any other such mechanisms. |
| AFAIK, they do not have to show up for work even if they haven't been shot. Also, a creature who holds a similar office and does the things that Chuck Schumer does is generally regarded as fulfilling his duties and his constituents are deemed to have representation. |
