How much actual research is involved if you pay to get on that site? What if you dont know much about your relatives to are researching?
Thanks |

There is a free site, run by the LDS, i forget what its called. The last time i read about this subject, it was recommended to try the free site. eta: try this https://www.familysearch.org/ |

I did the free two week trial back in Oct of 2009. All I had were the names of my Great Grand Parents on each side, and after plugging that info in, Ancestry immediately found Draft, Census, and other info. If anybody else has done any research with any of the names you plug in, it will alert you and allow you to link trees. I ended up running out of steam around the late 1600's, and now know my family was here before the Revolutionary War. After the two week trial rain out, I quit. I do think it is worth paying for though, I just exhausted all I could reasonably find. For now. |

I had an account with ancestry, and got the free premium which I believe was about 3 months. In that three months my family tree grew several hundred years, dating back to the 1300s in England somewhere. I found it hard to believe, I'm pretty sure that wasn't accurate at all because none of the names dating past 100 years ago were familiar at all, not one family member could confirm and some of them have done this type of thing before. |

They are legit. I think there are some sort of religious connotation / implications for Mormons, but I could be completely wrong about that. Your biggest risk is they may try to convert you. |
