I want to propose something hereā¦
As we all know the Federal Government is in a financial crisis and many states are in just as bad of shape as the Federal Government, some worse. The shortfall of revenue threatens to end vital programs such as Social Security, Medicare, food stamps, and midnight basketball. And these programs are all that keep America from falling into chaos. We would be a third world country if not for our governmentās charity. Since the government canāt cut anything and since it must have revenue we have to start taxing those who can afford to make sacrifices in these hard times⦠Yes Iām talking about the rich union members. So I think itās time to consider a tax on money generated through collective bargaining. Yes, collective bargaining is a ārightā but we tax a lot of things which are rights. Union members constantly brag about how great their wages and benefits are so I have to assume that they average making twice the average American wage of $40,000. There are about 15 million unionized workers in America. That means a mere 20% collective bargaining tax could raise $240 billion in vital revenue for the American people. Unions have traditionally supported the Democrat Party and the Democrats pride themselves on their willing to sacrifice for the good of government social programs. So I imagine the union members themselves will support this new tax wholeheartedly. And the greedy ones who donāt, need to understand that we all have to make sacrifices in these hard times. |

This could actually have real political legs if the % were in the 5-10% range and the GOP picks up a few Senate seats.
After all, that's less than the evil rich pay for their capital gains taxes Now we just need a few House GOP members and talk radio guys to start hyping the idea. |
