How is the touch screen w/ that cover over it?  Will the case slide in a jeans pocket very well?  I know it's going to add some bulk.

Any other likes/dislikes about it?

I do. I'm a contractor. My phones get abused quite a bit. I bought my iphone and defender in December. I recently removed it from the case, its as clean as when I put it in the day I bought both of them.

Dropped it a couple of times too, no damage.

It makes it bulkier, but I don't carry it in my pocket anyway.

I have one on mine and love it! protects the screen, beefy construction, and has rubber covers over the openings. It also comes with a belt holster.

I have i phones in my family and have 2 spare otterboxes that I am willing to sell if you  are interested.

I drop my phone a lot and it still functions/looks brand new. The case does indeed add a little bulk, but nothing to bad. It's moisture resisitant. It is kinda hard to get in and out of a pocket due to the rubber texture, but not enough to deter me from using it.

The silicone stretches and gets peeled off in places meaning I'm always stretching it back on.

Touch screen works fine with the cover on. Obviously, it's not QUITE as sensitive as having the cover off.

Front pocket of jeans - probably not as the case is pretty bulky. That's one of the two things I don't really like about the Defender - the bulk (yes,  I know it's a trade off between protection and bulk).

My Defender was/is the first run that Otterbox launched to go with the iPhone 4. They may have tweaked it since then. The other thing  I don't like is the little flap on the top left that you have to open to plug in your earbuds. It started tearing after a few months (the again, I've had the Otterbox since August and it's still intact so YMMV).

I can personally vouch for the protection the Defender offers. I've dropped the phone from a good 3-4 feet onto concrete on at least three occasions with nary a scratch.

I had one for my 3G for well over a year no problems.  I have the iphone4 now amd am on my 3rd defender case.  I have broken the plasic case in several different places and the rubber outer keeps ripping where you flip it to silent.  Also have broken one if the belt clips as well.  IMO not as strong as the old ones but my phone does still work, the back glass is cracked.  I might also mention that I have cracked my third case when the phone dropped a foot onto an alum bleacher.  My phone would be trashed without it thou.

Thanks for the input all.  I guess I can try it out for a day or two and worst case just have to take it back.

Friend of mine with a 4 and the Defender has issues with the touch-screen.  Sometimes the screen will go dark when she's on a call but using her phone.  And sometimes she can't use the screen at all unless she takes the phone out of the case.

Read something along those lines having to do with the proximity sensor.  Seems like it was cleared up with the newest revision of the case.  Guess I'll have to see.

I love mine, rarely put it in a pant pocket... though sometimes. I usually carry it in a breast pocket on a button down shirt.

Screen is fine, it does take a little of the "holy shit" sharpness away from the retina display, but its still sharper than 99% of the phones out there.

It sticks to cloth pretty bad. I get annoyed even taking it in and out of a shirt pocket, or flannel pants around the house. I'd imagine jeans would be as bad if not worse.
Basically if I'm not wearing a button down shirt, I use the included holster/clip thing.

other than that, I like the case. I've dropped it a few times and even kicked it accross pavement once on accident, held up fine.

Another question:  The camera has a screen/cover over it correct?

Do you notice any glare or difference in quality of your photos?

Otterbox makes a Commuter series that isn't as bulky-pretty sure they offer it for the iphone.  I carry my HTC Android in one and its survived a couple falls already.

It does have a cover, and I don't really notice a difference unless I let dust build up on it.

Another thing, Otterbox customer service is great! I wanted to buy another belt clip so I could mount it in my truck. They wouldn't sell me one, but the rep shipped me one "under warranty" free of charge! Before I could use it as a mount, I broke the original one pulling it off my belt and used the new one for regular belt carry.

I was impressed with the service.

I wouldn't be without mine. I carry it in my back pocket, so I occasionally sit on it....no problems after 16 months.

As to the camera....I'm sure there is a bit of resolution lost, but if I'm needing a great picture, I have a real camera. Cellphone cameras are jut for grab shots.

I have the Defender and the Commuter but I would recommend the Commuter, it's plenty rugged without the size of the Defender. My phone has taken plenty of spills down stairs, across pavement, etc.

I'm sorry but I just don't see the Otterbox for the iPhone 4 being all that big. It does about double the thickness of the phone, but you're talking about pretty much the thinnest phone out there to begin with. I think the trade off of the larger size is well worth it.  Replacement cost of the phone is high, and protecting it ensures I'll get top dollar when the iPhone 5 is released in September.

I have had my 3G in an OtterBox since they came out. I bought the first one they made. That had an echo problem that they fixed. My phone has been in the same case since. It has protected the phone very well even though it has been dropped several times and got wet once. I was out stopping and directing traffic last year in a thunderstorm and forgot it was in my shirt pocket. I threw it in the truck and when I checked it a half hour later it had no problems.

The only downside is that the sound is muffled a little. It isn't that bad and I would never have an I-Phone without it.
My wife dropped her first I-Phone on a corner and shattered the screen. I bought the Otter Box after and the phone has survived.

Yep, I like mine but it's a huge bitch. At first I didn't think I'd like it because it pretty much makes the iPhone a brick but the case is very well made and seems to really live up to the reputation.

Seriously, a brick? I think we have all forgotten how heavy and big cell phones used to be.  Even in its case, I find it incredibly light, compact, powerful all while being protected soundly.

I have an Otterbox Defender on my 3GS, dropped it a few times and the phone is as new as the day I stuck it in there. Buy with confidence. My only peeve is the belt clip; it doesn;t hold as I thought it would, maybe is just mie, but I tend to carry it on my uniform pocket and the belt clip is on my glove box when i am not on duty.

I sell cell phones for a living.

If you don't mind the bulk it adds to the phone, and need or want the extra protection, there is nothing better on the market than an otterbox.

Everyone who has ever bought one from me, has said it was worth every penny later on.

Well, compared to the iPhone 4 without a case it adds at least 25% more thickness to it. Yes I can remember the old BB's and Palm phones and thankfully the case isn't that thick but it does pretty much do away with all the iPhone design and replaces it with a robustness that assures you dropping your phone won't be an issue. Hell, falling out of your pocket while you're on a ladder 30 ft in the air on concrete won't so much scratch your phone.

It's a very well built case....

I dropped mine from less than 3 feet in the Commuter. Shattered the glass.
I now have the Defender.

Ditto for my daughter.
Ditto for my nephew.

They also have the Defender now as well.

I have one for my droid X.

Touch screen still works well.  It is a bit tough to get the bar at the top to drop down.
Doesnt slip in and out of a pocket very well.  As much as a bonus as it is a negative.  I know my phone isnt going to slip out of my pocket.
Its bulky as hell.
It does do a very good job at keeping the phone from becoming damaged.  My phone looks brand new.

The only thing I dislike about it, is the stupid phone holster.  Its a hard plastic snap in contraption.  Its adds to the bulk.  It likes to catch on things and the clip pops off.  The only times I have ever dropped my phone, was from wearing it in the holster.

My iPhone 3GS got beat to hell and I cracked the back of it because i never got a case, but when I got an iPhone 4 I didn't want to replicate that mistake. The defender is awesome, and I feel my phone will last a lot longer

I had an old Blackberry 8703e a few years back.  Pretty sure my iphone with the defender case is still thinner than that thing.  The 8703e was a brick!  But it had an awesome keyboard

We've got four Commuter cases on various iPhones, Ipod touches, and an HTC android phone in my house too, they are really great cases.  In most cases they provide all the protection you will ever need, and are much more pocket-friendly and less bulky than the defender monsters.

Employee at the ice rink I play hockey at dropped one into the zamboni's auger while doing the ice... went around and around and around and finally ejected into the wall. Still worked.

I bought one the next day.

I like the way the one for the 3GS "plugs" into the shell. The case for the 4 has lips that seem to flip off the edges on occasion. But for as often I drop my phone, it's well worth it.

I have one and love it.  I work outside and its been on the concrete several times, still not a scratch.  The Clips are not the most durable.  But, as stated above their Customer Service is "OUTSTANDING"  I have had three replacement clips sent to me free of charge.

Otterbox for the win.

I've for the otterbox commuter and like it alot. Slim enough to ride in a pocket but at work it goes in my holster. Has rubber surround wrapped in hard plastic which takes falls really well. Screen protector saves the face.
