I was talking about this with my boss. We think that if they shut down all the "non-essential" government services that ought to provide a comprehensive list of areas for making permanent cuts.

While I also hope it shuts down for a bit I also dont want it too. The parents have been waiting for their FHA waiver to come through and if it gets delayed another couple weeks they might not get the house....

Essential services aren't shutting down . . . they just down get their paycheck until the guys who write the paychecks get to come back.
