Consumer spending hasn't halted yet?

The price has to go higher this time for spending to hit the wall?

Yup, I just cancelled my vacation to Fredericksburg in two weeks because of it.

Why is no one bitching and blaming obama like they did to Bush in the press? Fuck this!

People don't have all the credit cards, etc. to fund this bullshit for very long this time (unlike in 07-08)....the collapse will be fast and hard.   I can only hope that the speculators that started this will lose their asses so bad they have to eat out of garbage cans and live under overpasses.  There has been no real disruption in supply, only continued corruption in the oil market.

Obama isn't under fire because:

socialist don't attack other socialists

Unlike Bush, he doesn't have an Oil background or any connections they can run with.  Iraq was just more fuel for the fire, saying we did it for the oil, too.

What I can't believe is How weak the country is, you would think Barry would do Everything he can to keep it half-way cheap till re-election was over.  How the hell he expects to get in with 5 dollar gas is beyond me.  Keeps going the way it is, you will probably be shooting people to keep what food you have or are growing.

$3.89 here also.

At one time I could fill up on $40.  Now it takes the gauge to just under half.

$5.00 a gallon and our economy will fall apart, not recession, full blown fall the fuck apart.....depression economics complete with rioting in the streets.

Gas went up .10 a gallon in one day here.

I checked Gas Buddy for prices in Hatteras, NC where I vacation and they won't even list their prices! With the NC avaerage of $3.61 Lord only knows what it is in Hatteras. I usually book this time of year for a week in Sept. but I'll hold off this year.

I love going down there to surf fish but if gas is going to be around $5.00 a gallon I'll stay home. I figure if I have to spend $100 or so to get there, around $150 just to tool around the beach and fish for the week, then spend that almost much again for the return trip I'll stay the heck at home.

Heck, I could buy three Mosins and a crate of ammo with all that gas money. If one equates gas costs with Mosins it sort of puts things in perspective. How many $80.00  Mosins could you buy in a month?

No, No, No, No... We are not the Middle East for Christ sake.. People will bitch and moan. Thats about it.
Would you take a day off of work to protest gas prices? Would your neighbor?
And don't give me the old "the Ghetto Goblins will rise up" story. Cause it aint gonna happen....

Last summer I filled up 3 ATV's and my Silverado at like ... $2.50/gal? I spent well over $200 one-way for fuel, alone. There's no way that I'll be making trips like those very often, anymore. If at all.

Depends on what type of effort was but behind such a protest. Me thinks it would go over big if promoted properly. This go-round folks are not going to be moved by the "don't stall the economy" BS the progressives were dishing out last time gas went above $4.00 a gallon.

One thing is for darn sure and that is wage earners will not spend formerly disposable income on vacations where they have to drive or the 3-4 hr trip to grandma's house. That is where the rubber really meets the road. If one decides to drastically curtail their driving due to gas prices the whole economy suffers.

As a example if I decide not to travel to Hatteras this year that will be one less house rental, less seafood/grocery sales, less fishing tackle/bait/license sales, and all else that goes with spending a week at the beach on vacation.

I hear they are waiting for the mass-panic to set in, until a breaking point, then they will pull out the big-surprise on the American people!

A new reality show with Singing AND Dancing, coupled with $4 Pizzas from Pizza Hut...

Everyone will be glued to the TV, stuffing their faces and forget all about that gas stuff..

If Obama is responsible for these prices then Bush was definitely at fault when he was in office.

However both assertions are ridiculous. The President should have no say in the market, it is a self correcting entity and if the market deems it too high we'll see an adjustment. I'm not too keen on "futures" though.

[futureObamaspeech]Some...difficult measures...are going to have to be taken.  These are unimaginable times, and we can not move forward until we restore order.  We must identify those agitators who instigate chaos and disrupt our way of life.  The American people have to remember, we're all in this together.[/futureObamaspeech]

All the gas prices means to me is...

We stay on camp,eat/drink a the Gator(bar) go to the gym, swim at the pool and fish at the pond

Never liked being stuck on a old airfield in the middle of nowhere, until now

When we go  into town it turns into a round trip of Walmart, gunshop and then to the beach

The 40s and Kools have to travel by truck/plane/boat that runs on crude-based fuel at same point, and their prices will rise, along with everything else.

This...They even told us they were going to do this last fall, when they started planting news stories about projected 4-5$ per gallon gasoline by spring (now). They just lied about the cause at the time, using the old India/China fallback.
Then we find out the "spontaneous Twitter Revolution" was started by a Google executive, the Fed has been pumping money into Libya for the past couple years and the band of rebels who can't seem to slap their asses with both hands have already established a central bank and a national oil company.

Interesting times, indeed.

It's not the speculators. It's the market preparing itself for whatever economy killing measure He-Who-Brings-The-Light thinks up next.

If I had a time machine and came back from the future to tell everyone that the world was going to wholesale stop mining gold, what would the market do? What would you do? Do a little research on what the moron said about ending domestic production while stopping oil imports.

Barack is doing his absolute best to damage the economy as much as possible. Oil is going to go up, no matter what. What do you think people are going to do? What happened when we thought there was going to be another gun ban? People were snapping up shitty M4geries for $1600 apiece. They'd have made out good had that ban happened. Same deal.

What are you looking for? Me, I'd love to have a diesel instead of my ZR2 S-10 and a tandem axle trailer to comfortably pull my new tractor around. I would do that on the hope that fuel prices would someday get and stay below ~$2.50/gal for me to even think about it though. I fear if we do see prices dip below that, they will not hold for long.
