AT&T Inc said on Sunday it would buy Deutsche Telekom AG's T-Mobile USA, in a $39 billion cash-and-stock transaction that would create a new industry behemoth by combining two of the four largest U.S. wireless carriers. Well that sucks ass. I'm fed up with ATT's exorbitant prices (I pay over $100 for one phone with the cheapest rate plan+data+text, ridiculous). I was planning to switch to T-mobile as soon as my current contract is up, but it looks like that's no longer an option. I can't stand stupid US-only CDMA phones so Verizon and Sprint are not viable options, guess I have to continue bending over and spreading for ATT. I fucking searched for "AT&T" too, our search engine is shit. http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=5&t=1164148 |
| This is both timely and amusing to me. I had a conversation with a coworker a week ago about our cell phone carriers. She had T-Mobile and I have AT&T. I told her I hated having AT&T enough that a few years ago, I left and went to Cingular. Two years later, AT&T bought Cingular. As I told her, it's hard to avoid AT&T because they're always looking for new acquisitions. |

It would be nice if the FCC didn't allow the buy out because it kills competition in the GSM marke. It would also be nice if the FCC said ended the bullshit that allows Verizon, VirginMobile, and Sprint to tie service to equiptment. The biggest reason why I hate CDMA is that I can't switch phones without asking for permission first and have the provider say1)No fucking way or 2)Sure but you need to add a data plan you'll never use to that new smart phone. Both things are a pipe dream I know. |

I want worldwide standard GSM phones I can pop a sim card into anywhere in the world, and I have been doing that for years with Cingular/ATT. |
