Since there seems to be some interest...I'll type out what I had originally. After seeing the parenting, guns, and utilities threads, I noticed that it seems a lot of people today think that a right is something that you're entitled to be provided at little or no cost, instead of something that can't be prohibited or taken away from you, but that you provide for yourself. What do you think? |

Nevermind then.
ETA: I guess I'll put this back: A Right is the freedom of an individual to perform an act without interference by another individual or group, violation of which the use of Force is morally justified to prevent or punish. Rights are inherent in the human condition, whether granted by Nature or Nature’s God, and include the following fundamental Rights: The Right of each person to Life, that is, the Right of self-ownership, from which other Rights are derived. The Right of each person to Liberty, that is, the Right to communicate, worship, petition the government, and engage unobstructed in all activities which do not directly harm or violate the Rights of another. The Right of each person to Pursue Happiness, that is, the Right to earn and own property and keep or use it as he or she sees fit, so long as such use does not directly harm or violate the Rights of another. No Right can exist which requires violation of the Rights of another. False rights, such as the right of one person to own the property of another, violate the Right of self-ownership by making one person work without compensation, which is called slavery, or requiring the seizure of rightfully owned property from an individual, which is called theft. |

So....I receive a text message today that says: "Call me dis lynn". I don't know "lynn" but this is the second one I've gotten like this. It ticks me off that they use the word "dis"......are you that lazy?
I got one like that one day and started texting back. She was asking something about Dewane so I replied back that he was goofy and had a big head and it went on from there for 7 or 8 messages until I finally had to tell her that I wasn't who she thought I was. |

What do you think? I agree with your position. To me, a right is something that shall not be infringed upon. It is a freedom to do or not do something. It is not something that the government must provide free to me, or subsidize heavily. |

While it would be funny, I don't feel like "dumbing down" my language today....... |

What do you think? Sounds like you hit the nail on the head. Lots of folks have lost sight of where a right comes from also. God gives rights, man can only grant privleges. |
