04 Chrysler Door locks started going crazy while driving 2 weeks ago then corrected itself.

This morning I noticed a brake light out today. The bulb had a hole in it at the top, and was full of water. Seemed obvious that the shorting elements in the bulb were causing a short in the circuit. Replaced the bulb brake light works, but did not fix the crazy locks.

Also when they go crazy, putting on the brakes and or releasing causes them to lock and unlock. Car will unlock by itself while parked.

Any clues???

is battery/charging system going bad/low?

Could be something drawing to much current or shorting out in your breaks/break lights

My Dakota used to start doing things like that anytime I left the lights on and the battery drained substantially or had to be jumped.   If you charged the battery, unplugged all of the computer cables for 2 minutes and plugged them back in, the problem would go away.  Same thing on our neighbors Durango.

I've got no real information for you on your particular car, just follow basic electrical troubleshooting techniques.

There is a similar issue on my car where the trunk wiring ages over time and the insulation gets brittle.  The flexing opening and closing the trunk breaks the insulation off and leads to short circuits causing all kinds of problems from lying instruments indicating lights are out, all the way up to fires.

IF this is a Chrysler with the locks that activate when reaching a certain speed, it could be one of your doors isn't closing properly.

Yes it is.

The other symptom right now is that the passenger door switch will unlock the doors, but make a half-hearted sound when the switch is pressed to Lock. Right now, that switch will not lock the doors. Other times it will.

The car intermittently unlocks the doors after parking for a while.

I understand it's a complicated system with the door switches, lock switches, vehicle speed  integration and all.  The switches send a hot signal to the Body Computer. The switches are supposed to have an open, low resistance and high resistance to signal the computer to lock or unlock.

I'm leaning toward the car falsely sensing that it's unlocked while driving and then tries to lock. Putting on the brakes might be a signal telling it that it doesn't have too.

I am not getting a door ajar signal.

Bad Ground (wire or contact point on the body) or
Bad Door Ajar Switch (had this happen on my Ford, drove me crazy til I tracked it down and replaced the worn switch), or
Bad "Body Module" ––- control module that regulates automated stuff like door locks, etc.

My Ford Escape had a problem where the locks would seemingly lock & unlock for no reason at all. I found out that one of the cables coming from the security module was loose. It fell off and I could not start the car for 2 days. When I finally got it fixed the door lock problem went away.

03 ram 1500 quad cab.  Driver side door locking and unlocking randomly.  Had to pull the fuse it got so crazy.  Turns out the lock mechanism got wet and was going out.  Dodge dealership replaced it for $80.
