Alot of you guys post about opsec violations when it comes to decals or license plates, or t-shirts. What about posting pics of what you have on a public forum? isnt that an opsec violation? Just wondering, I have posted pics of some guns, to bad I lost them all in a boating accident. |
|
I keep my online persona seperate enough from my real one, that it would be pretty tough for you to figure out where I live. I have given contact details to people I've met online, but only after I get to know them pretty well, and even then, they get my FB page. My FB page doesn't even have enough info to find my house.
Poeple who know me in real life know I have guns. They're more of a security threat in my opinion. A friend's cousin is more likely to be an issue than some random internet person. |
|
To me, there is a difference between posting your LP or other info that someone could use to find you and simply posting pictures of your guns. I would post pictures of guns all day long, I obviously do not have an issue with posting my picture in a public forum, but I do not do anything that gives away my address. Someone can come to my house and try to get me... They are going to have a bunch of .40" diameter holes in them if they try. ETA: Stickers... a BFL is very low profile, NO ONE but other ARFCOM'ers know what that is. Driving around town with a Glock, S&W or Sig Sauer decal on your vehicle is asking for a broken window. NRA sticker is pushing it a little, but OK IMO. |

By the way they are out and I think I'm gonna get one of each, there goes opsec.

I don't think anyone knows how many guns I have, not a single living person. Honestly I even lose count sometimes. My wife lives with me and she doesn't know. As far as stickers on the vehicle go, I represent on my truck, I don't have a sticker that points to gun ownership but I hope people get the message. I have vet plates, a very large Combat Action Badge sticker in my rear window, a gadsden, a "Come and Take it", and a small white BFL. I also have BFL's on my motorcycle and car. I actually won't post a picture of myself without blacking the face out and as far as my address goes I will only tell people the city I live in, which doesn't tell people much because there is over 1 million people in my city. I'm not afraid of posting pictures of guns I own either, but I do black out the serials. As far as OPSEC goes you really don't have to worry about much as long as you don't give people your real name. |

But I don't post pics or for that matter, really talk about what I have. The pics I used are general use ones available on the NET and of the ones I talk about that I have, which may or may not be the same as the ones I have experience with, that's generally only my USP.

Hahaha, its just the way the pants are folded it makes me look like I have a prosthetic I know. When I put this on my FB a couple of my friends literally messaged me asking me if I had lost my leg in AFG and was just keeping it secret to not scare everyone. |

They are statically tied too, you just tie them once where it feels comfortable and then just tuck in the rest of your laces and you never have to retie them. They are surprisingly snug and comfortable. |

| The next-door house full of unsupervised yard-apes is a more real threat to my firearms security than a mostly-anonymous web ID. Cancelled a planned shooting trip last week because that pack of tween thugs was hanging around in their front yard and street. And since our No1 crime problem around these parts is post-school daytime smash and grab burglaries, last thing I want to do parade my firearms past that pack of near-orphan animals. |

That's a shitty situation man, get some cameras up. |

Pics mostly prove nothing. Very true. In my previous life on another board, I had a number of fans because of a column I wrote and a number of people who were jealous of that. The second group would occasionally try to figure out how to ARock me. So, not being as stupid as them, I just created fake (oops, and did I forget to secure them) photo sites and phony personal info banks. It's amazingly easy to Google "10 year old birthday party" and create a whole alternate existence to use to play with the sloping forehead crowd.

Hell, I don't care if someone knows what I've got. All you'd have to do is go to the range on any given Sunday and you'll see what I've got anyway. If you ask, I'll probably even let you shoot them. I do cover up serial numbers in pictures though. The only persec I really bother with is serial numbers, license plates, telling people when I'm not at home and anything that could lead to someone stealing my identity. Beyond that I really don't care what you know about me. |

I've had small articles written about success in HS sports and Eagle Scout, etc..
I bought my first firearm at 18 through an FFL, so my name is already on a list somewhere. I post on a conservative bastion masquerading as a forum. I constantly post political shit on facebook. I have no OPSEC anymore But seriously, if someone wants to find me badly enough they'll be able to. I refuse to live in fear of "the man" or something crazy |

I blame illegals, but anyway the real shooters out there do clean up. See the 2 wooden target stands, the 2nd one is barely in the frame. I bring those out with me every time I go and they go right back in my truck when I'm done. Occasionally I will bring some clays out to shoot but those are biodegradable, once I have come and gone from a shooing spot there is no evidence of me ever being there. Once in a blue moon I will bring a garbage bag and fill it full of trash and bring it back but honestly I only do that maybe once every 20 or 30 times I go out there. Every once in a while someone hosts a desert clean up too, I have only been to one of those but I would go again. |
