I'm looking at picking up a laptop.  I hate buying new computers b/c stuff changes too fast.  I want the fastest computer I can get in a laptop less than $600 (ideally closer to $500).  It will do nothing more than internet searching and basic MS Office applications.  My work laptop is hella slow to me and its an AMD Athlon 64 X2, dual core TK-55 1.58 ghz, w/ 1.87 gb of RAM.  Min 15.6" screen.  I don't care about blu-ray.

Any ideas?

How about closer to $400.  Here are several 15"+ laptops from Dell that meet your specs as cheap as $399.  2-Day sale ends on the 24th.

The red and blue statements are in conflict.

If you are a member of Sams club or Costco, walk into either store with a wad of money and buy whichever piece of crap they have available for $499 or less.  You will be perfectly happy and never look back.  Prefer Costco due to their liberal 90 day return policy and automatic extended warranty.

If you want to pinch pennies, watch local sale flyers and hang out on FatWallet / SlickDeals for a few days.  In short order you will find a laptop for $399 (or less) that will meet your needs.
