Why am I paying out 28.6% of each of my checks to taxes?

The 20 hrs of overtime only nets me 60%.

Fun being a grown up, isn't it?

I get about that much or more OT each bi weekly check. Yes, it hurts to look at it.

Not sure what you're confused about.

State tax rate is what in LA?

and overtime usually makes it look like you're making more per year, which raises your tax bracket on that check. If you don't work lots of OT all year, you'll get most of it back.

What, you don't feel the government is earning their 28.6%?

Caviar and champagne cost money bro.

Start writing letters.  Tell your Congressmen and The Kenyan that it's the end of the road for the obscene spending in HHS, and that you've had enough.  Vote in anti-spending representatives.

Here's another little annoyance - your taxes need to increase by 33% in order to balance the budget.

After figuring my contributions to the nation I went to see how nice a car I could be buying with those payments ... "super class" sports cars like the Porsche 911 GT3, ZR1 Corvette, or a Maserati GranTurismo with zero down.

Overall the government consumes about 60% of my income when I figure all of the taxes including income tax.

Impeach Obama for the Good of the Welfare System.

Federal government spends about $12K per capita, or $48K for a family of four.

Since the median household income isn't much more than that, the only way the vast majority of Americans get to spend any of their own money is for those who make more to pay more.

Only solution is to cut spending, and everyone wants to cut only those programs they don't feel they benefit from personally, so nothing gets cut.

Most years I haven't had to pay my $48K, so I don't feel any need to bitch about the tax code, I just focus on the spending.

You owe Ms. Jasper:

Sharon Jasper sits in the living room of her voucher-backed private residence. "I might be poor but I don't like to live poor. I thank God for a place to live but it's pitiful what people give you."

So shut up white boy! and get back to work!

If your net income tax is 28.6% you need to find a better accountant.  Warren Buffet only pays 17.7% income tax.  My rate after all my deductions is usually around 15%.

Ahh yes. Don't forget that after you get to keep 60% of your money, you get to pay taxes on what you buy with that money and if it is anything signifigant you also get to pay taxes on that item every year you own it until you are dead.

If we got a bill at the end of the year for the taxes we paid in total, it would have been 1770s all over again a looooong time ago.

I make a very modest living and I'm paying near 25%. Every standard pay period, 20 hours of my work goes to Uncle Sam.

We could have a tax revolt in one year if we ended withholding and everyone had to write a big fat check to the government.

That check should be due Nov 14th.

Why 28.6%?  There's a lot of hongry chillun and their parents who are part of that 43 million living off food stamps, Section 8 housing or the projects.   You're also contributing to Medicare/Medicaid as well as Socialist Security, something you'll never collect from either when it's your turn.  But don't complain, you're doing the compassionate thing in supporting them.

We can only talk about snap shots.  All sorts of bad things can happen.  Many good things, too, but that will require a Congress with balls, and willing to shut off the spigot.

That's why 3 out of every 4 hours of overtime I worked last year were unpaid hours.  See?  I'm beating the system, showing them who's boss, stickin' it to the man.........oh, wait a minute.
