Why convert to like a 9mm or some other pistol cal. I'm not bashing them just curious about the appeal. Open my eyes

I believe its because you can also use the same bolt for a 9mm and its cheaper. I use a .22 conversion because i can't afford to shoot more than a couple mags of 5.56 when i go

For 3 gun where the shooting range only has pistol bays, like ACC.

9mm is quiet when used with a suppressor.

I shoot a 7.62 x 25 Tok conversion because the last time I stocked up on spam cans I was paying $86 per 1260 round can, and that was the delivered price.

I think you mean carrier. But you've also got to swap out the buffer to a heavier one.

I don't think 9mm is that much cheaper anymore. Cheapest 9mm is $8.50 a box of 50 and .223 is 4.00 a box of 20 so it's pretty close. You might as well shoot .223 if you're comparing it to 9mm.

Those CMMG .22lr conversions are pure fun in your AR! I was pretty skeptical when I bought it, but after shooting a couple bricks, you'd have to pry it from my cold dead hands.

The 9mm uppers give you ultra low recoil practice and are considerably quieter than the .223's.

Shoot 5.56 to 'clean' the crud out via high pressure.

Well said.

One .223 through that gun and Viola! Gas tube is clear.

30,000 psi is pretty good at removing a clog.

Allows you to stock up on one common type of ammo if need be, or only take one kind of ammo to the range.

For 9mm and .22lr, allows training for cheap––-and in the case of .22lr, freedom from picking up brass.

Other calibers than 5.56 can offer added utility, depending on what you're doing.  Bigger calibers for hunting, or hogs, or cracking engine blocks; 9mm or .22 for fun or for teaching people to shoot on the cheap, etc.

Best reason- they're fun!  Seriously, I can give you all sorts of reasons I've heard but they're just plain fun.  Was a lot cheaper to shoot and quieter are my next favorite reasons.

.22 dedicated upper cures that problem too. I love shooting my 22 upper. My daughters love it too. Costs a little more but I like over a conversion kit.

But I do find myself wanting a .45 upper for some reason. No real need, just want one.

If you get a chance, try out one of those Sig522's. They use those Black Dog (Or whatever they're called) magazines just like those AR conversions, and they are an absolute pleasure to shoot. Sig hit a Grand Slam with that little rifle. It's as accurate as my 10/22 but is absolutely reliable, doesn't use those shitty rotary magazines, and the magazines it does use are easy to load and unload so little fingers don't get all busted up! They're also great, like your AR, because kids these days gravitate to the tacticool rifle. You not only have an opportunity to get them shooting, but teach them gun safety, *AND* remove the mystery of firearms. When I pulled that rifle out, the first word out of one of their mouths was, "Hey I use that rifle in Call Of Duty!" I said, "Yep, if you can show you're responsible enough to use it, I'll give it to you for the weekend."

I took one to our yearly Redneck Event where there are no fewer than a thousand kids and the little snot-gobblers easily shot up 4000 rounds in a two day period. I don't think the squirrel population has recovered yet! We also had a fire... a REDNECK fire where we burned two couches, a recliner, a pile of stuffed animals, and I think someone threw a couple tires in there... Sixty foot flames and I found that an old couch with stuffed animals is a rare thing to behold when it goes up in flames. Anyway, that little rifle prompted every other father that was there to buy one, so I think this year will eradicate every sign of life in those woods. I wouldn't be surprised if the little shits try to bring down a a tree.

22's should be outlawed! They're an absolutely illegal amount of fun.

I could be wrong, but I doubt a lot of people simply "convert" to 9mm, as in giving up their 5.56.    At the very least they probably just buy or build an extra upper in 9mm, or like I did, build an entirley new gun.

I have ARs in several different calibers just for the fun of it.

Link? I buy by the case too. Lowest I can get it is $7.90/50rd box if I buy a thousand. Cheapest I can find .223 is about $4 a 20rd box, again for a thousand. Sure you get ten more rounds for the same price, but monetarily speaking you don't see a big difference until you get into the tens of thousands of rounds. It's really not that much cheaper.

But if you can do better than $7.90 a box for 9mm, by all means, post a link and I'll buy a couple thousand.
