I'm looking for a cat door for installation in a interior door. I have seen lots of clear doors for sale but I want one that is solid, preferably black or brown. Since there seems to be a correlation between gun owners and cats, I thought you all might have an answer

I put a cat door in so she could go into the Florida room and go outside.  The lazy little bitch makes us get up and open (the regular door with the cat door attached) it for her.  It was a waste of time & money.

I took our interior door off the hinges, cut the rectangular opening for the cats, trimmed it out, repainted, and rehung the door.  No flap, no plastic, just a nice looking rectangular opening with trim around it.  Cats love it, dogs hate it since now they can't get into the cat room and eat their food and go litter diving for cat shit to munch on.

On an interior door?
Just cut the lower corner out and trim the edge.
Unless you're trying to keep a Chihuahua or a ferret out.

Assuming you wish to keep the door closed, what are you trying to keep out?

Well, I like the ideas with cutting a hole out in the door; however this is my bedroom door and I prefer to have my privacy...you know, when the ladies come over . If worse comes to worse, I'll just cut out the hole and then make a wooden swinging door to put in there. If someone makes a swinging wooden cat door I would be interested in it as I don't have much time to make one myself.

EDIT: actually, now that I think about it, I'm gonna just get a clear one and put strips of black paper or something like that over it. Why didn't I think of that earlier LOL

A piece of carpeting will work as a flap.

Just kick a big ragged hole in the bottom of the door with your "waffle stompers".

Just replace the door knobs with levers and let your domestic carnivore open the door whenever he pleases.

I used one like this, http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3551827 .  It is a pretty dark smoke color.  But I imagine you could rough it up with sandpaper, then prime and paint it to match your door.

Better put one of those that discriminates(using special collar).  My sister came home and found her cat plus 4 others in her house.  It cost her a bundle to clean the place.
