Ok everybody please tell me if I'm seeing to much in to this and how you would react.
Background on me: I was raised to respect people. I use the words "ma'am" and "sir" when speaking to people. Basically I treat others as I want to be treated. I'm a big boy (6', 270 lbs) so I make sure to pay extra and get a first class ticket so that others enjoy their flight. I am very outgoing and can talk to anybody. Tonight I was on flight 2052 from Atlanta to Charlotte. I'm sitting in the window seat when an old man (about 65) sits down beside me in the aisle seat. I say "good evening sir how are you?". He just looks at me shocked that I had the nerve to actually speak to him, he doesn't say a word. At this point I'm thinking that I'll just ignore him. He then grabs an airline blanket and opens it and puts it on himself. He holds the plastic wrapper out and drops it on the floor. I lean up and notice the wrapper is right beside the aisle. I start thinking that somebody is going to slip on that and hurt themselves or somebody else and then Delta will get sued, flight prices will go up, etc... I don't say anything and the wrapper stayed beside the aisle. During takeoff, the old man is picking his nose and wiping his findings on the blanket. About 10 minutes in to the flight, the flight attendant brings the tray of snacks and the old man grabs a couple of packs. He opens the first pack of pretzels using his teeth, pours them in his hand and drops the wrapper in the floor. Then he's on to the second pack of pretzels, opens with his teeth and the wrapper gets dropped in the floor. Now the guy is just holding the wrappers out from his body and dropping them. Shortly after finishing the pretzels he has a coughing fit and coughs for 15-20 seconds. His hands never moved from his armrests! He was coughing all over the occupied seat in front of him! After this coughing fit, I tell him that I need to get up so I go to the galley and tell the attendants that he's thrown several wrappers in the floor and they need to be careful that nobody slips and falls. I then ask for another seat and the only option was in the very back of the plane. So I went to the back of the plane and sat with a mother and her son for the remainder of the flight. What does the hive say? Did I over-react or under-react? How would you react in this situation? |
