Who here has done this? I want to go to Moscow for the summer so bad it hurts I'm talking to the person in charge of the study abroad program soon.

I studied in England. I had a blast, the courses were top notch, and the people were fantastic. I've heard "iffy" stuff about studying in Moscow. Granted, this was from folks that did it over half a decade ago, but I guess they had frequent security concerns (from locals, not terrorists or anything like that). People will tend to "defend" their choice in study abroad location. I have some friends that swear up in down that they loved India for 6 months. Fuck me, I'm lucky if I can put up with them long enough to fill up the tank. Lots of folks rave about East Asia and European experiences. Whatever you do, bring money. - BG |

He just got back last summer. He had a blast, but it was a bit different from the US. The people there are for the most part friendly. He did say that the Americans that tended to hang out only with other Americans tended not to have much fun- so go out and talk to Russians. Crime wasn't bad, no more than you'd expect from any major city. There are a few people drunk in the streets at all times of day, no matter where you go. Corruption/bribery is still part of the bureaucracy. My brother lost some paperwork related to his visa and went to get it replaced. He was told it would be couple of weeks to get the signatures he needed, unless he cared to pay a small "fee" to hurry it along. The fee was only equivalent to about $15-20 iirc, but it shocked my brother. |
