Has anyone ever used hand signals for visual communication?
I'm referring to person to person, from different distances. I've tried to look into military field manuals and only get aircraft and basic hand signals. A friend and I have been hunting coyotes together lately and have found the need for this type of communication. I was thinking about just coming up with my own but realized someone out there has probably studied this already and has cut corners. I imagine you could use hand signals up closer but would need to use more overt arm signals the further out you go. I wonder if you could incorporate a signaling mirror for use when being viewed through magnification from longer distances. More intricate hand signals could be used and the mirror could be used by the viewer to confirm transmission. Any ideas or links to good info? |

I've used hand signals in trucking, cranes, and tractor/excavator use. There are standard sizes which are supposed to be used but in general the operator and the rigger/ground guy know what each other means with individual signs, largely through working together for so long. If a safety guy catches you with the wrong signs, and or a boss they usually are not pleased.

I guarantee if you are close enough to see hand signals with or with out nocs the yotes have already seen, heard and or smelled you. If you want yotes your best bet is elevated down wind. Use a call and bust em as they come in. |
