| I'm just curious as to what the differences would be. I understand the lengths are different but since there are less semesters then there are quarters would that mean an individual takes more classes per semester then each quarter? Furthermore, would the work be about the same or less on a weekly basis as quarters are shorter than semesters? |

what grade are we talking here? Generally a semester is broken up into 2 Quarters... College. My present university is on a quarter system ie three regular and one optional in the summer. A semester I thought was 2 and then summer. Are semesters broken up also? |

Quarter system doesn't make much sense to me. Seems a bit like high-school. You have longer classes, more frequently, but for a shorter period. Since much of college is work outside of class, I don't see you actually taking away as much knowledge from a quarter system as opposed to a semester-based system. I don't have experience with both, so take my opinion FWIW

Expectations to master much more coursework in a shorter amount of time. Sounds like semesters may be right for me! |

let's say, you need 4 credit hours of a math class. under the semester system, one math class is 4 credit hours. under the quarter system, the math class is only 2 credit hours. The difference is you probably could split the 4 credit hours and not take them consecutively under the quarter system. Also, it's easier to make up for bad grades under the quarter system. |

They switched to semesters with semester credits my second year there. Good thing it was my senior year. eta: corrected time frame. |
