Hey my name is obviously Jay and i'm new to the forum... Been a a forum guy, very informative and social thing especially when you have newborn twins not much getting out...lol... I'm on several forums My.Is, Kawiforums, G35, Audizine, etc. This is my first and only firearms forum. I have a couple of firearms just to name a few. Spring field XD sub compact, Romanian underfold AK, SP101, Spas 12, etc.

Now i'm in the market for an AR. Looking to get the best bang for my buck. I've been doing research for the past 3 months, let me tell your its just as hard to decide on an AR then it is to find the ideal woman... lol... But I must make my decision this week as I have a buddy of mine who can get me really good deals on any AR for ME this week only... So i'm stuck! .... I know its a noob question

I've been considering

-M&P 15 T
-Rugger SSR 15
-Daniel Defense DD 20000

-Spikes Tactical (Thanks to members here... Im considering)

Anyothers u can add as a good candidate would be good... But please give full detail why

I know I can google specs and stuff but I want a users advise the actual experience... If you have any suggestion please feel free to comment... Hopefully you guys can help with my decision... I would like to make a by tomorrow but I have till the end of the week... Thanks in advance!

Moderators after I make my decision can this thread be deleted?

Personally, I am a "buy once, cry once" kinda guy. I like having the best, especially when the price difference is negligible.

Daniel Defense
Spikes Tactical
Colt
Bravo Company

These are the only brands I will deal with when it comes to ARs.

For your needs, the M&P15 will suit you just fine, don't be afraid to pick it up. But just know that for probably the same price you can pick up one of the 4 brands I mentioned above and it will be a better made weapon, that Daniel Defense will be great for you.

You are gonna have about 90,000 people who have buyers remorse try to convince you that a Bushmaster or a Ruger is "Ok". These are the same types of people who would probably say  Honda is "just as good" as Mercedes. Again, buy once, cry once.

From your list I would go Daniel Defense, S&W then Ruger...

Not sure if you need to buy a complete rifle from your friend but you can get a top notch Spikes rifle for $800 and a BravoCo for not much more if you piece it together yourself.

Like the guy above me said in today's AR market I would only be dealing with a select few companies for complete rifles.  Parts are a little different as some companies make top notch parts but don't make complete rifles...

LOL @ "Buy once, cry once" ... I'm the same way I dont mind paying an extra $100 or $200 for something I would be alot more satisfied

The DD price he gave me was for the DD 20000 which is the one with long rails, grip and rear folding sight and hard case... for $1200 out the door... $1250 for Ruger out the door, and $1350 for M&P 15 Tactical.

He was telling me how to stay away from Colt as they are over rated and dont even make their own part... So your really paying for the "Colt" stamp. Dont know how true that is. Spikes Tactical sounds nice... I been to the gun shows but I hear good and bad things about them... They are actually located about 20min away from me. Never heard about Bravo Company (noob comment.. lol)

Yes I know what you mean about the honda comment owned a few... But thats back in my teenage years... lol... Whats part of FL your located?

Spikes is really the way to go especially if your only 20 min away from them.

Do some research on here about them and you will quickly find they are top of the line as far as AR's go.  Hell you could even go down to their shop and they may even be able to give you a tour as some guys on here have done before.  Thats what I would do at least if I were in your shoes.

Not to mention they are about $400 cheaper for a basic mid-length rifle.

If you are 20 mins from Spikes, head on over there. You will get a great rifle.

I am a little leary about some of the stuff that your dealer is trying to push on you, i.e. colt is junk thing....

cue the AR chart -

seriously go over to spikes

To be fair the $800 is without the rails but you can get the rails from Spike's for about $200 which is still much cheaper than what was shown to you.

He said if I wanted he'll sell me his... He says that Colt was really good a few years ago when they manufactored their own products... They were the best!!! But now they slacked off and have other manuf. making their parts... But like I said i'm a noob dont know how tru that is...

Colt is still producing a lot of rifles for the military that are performing very well...So they must be doing something right.

Spike's IMO is up there with Colt just without the reputation.  Customer service is also top notch and if you do end up going down there make sure they know your from ARFCOM

Well Im in Hawaii right now but Im from the Tampa area.

If you're that close to Spikes, head on over there. They are good people. I dont have a Spikes upper but I have 2 spikes lowers.

www.bravocompanyusa.com

Their uppers are top notch. I recommend them over anything else, as would most others. (The only ones who wouldn't are fan boys of DD or Spikes or Colt) What I prefer is their abundance in options. You can get literally any type of barrel length and rail length/type you could possibly imagine.

That said, I would just go to Apopka and buy a Spikes if I were you. When I get home I fully plan on heading up there to buy a bunch of lowers.

I live 40 min from Spikes. I'm so happy with my Colts and Armalite I have never even considered the drive over.
I would put them about 4th on my list after DD.

Colt
Armalite
DD
Spikes

Again Jay these are all great manufacturers. Pick one that you like. Spikes would be fine.
Being as you are a 1st time buyer and they are close don't be in a rush. Go over and see them.
Oh and though I get the point the buy once cry once thing is a fantasy theory when applied to guns and woman.

Great gun and service to boot.
Even though I would go with a DD over spikes (never shot spikes, personal preference, I own a DD)
However if you do live by them, then Id go take a gander at their factory.

Since you are right next to Spikes, I'd be snatching one up.

Bravo, Spikes, DD and Colt are all at the same level as far as materials are concerned.

Bravo and Spikes will give you very good personal service.

I am very new to the AR system but I have been doing a ton of research as to what my first rifle should be. I don't have a ton of money sitting around but that aside when i would do comparsions as far as features, mil spec parts and finishes one maker came up more and more. Spikes. So about 2 weeks ago I ordered my complete mid length rifle from them. I am one of those people that over research everything and really takes the time to look at every angle, mainly becuase I don't have a lot of money so I really need to get the best bang for my buck. They were very helpful in answering my questions (even though the questions were probably "new guy" stuff) and just awesome to deal with. i probably have another week or so till I get my rifle, but if I were you I think Spikes can fill your needs. And just today I bought 500 rounds of ammo with the money that I would have spent on a more expensive rifle, Again I am new to all of this as well so take it for what it is worth.

I just got a complete Spikes middy with their new SAR rail it is a sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!! rig.  I got a Bushmaster here that is like new with the Troy rail and light mount if you decide you want to get rid of the Spas. I have always wanted to own a Spas, even though I know they can be quite a pain at times.  When you go to Spikes ask to see their new SAR rail. I promise you will want one on your rifle. Also look at the BCM Gunfighter Mod 4 charging handle. I am now getting them for all my rifles.

I just don't know if I would trust a Colt.  Mainly the only people that use Colt are the US Army, Airforce, Navy,
Marines, National Guard, Reserve Units, Coast Guard, and most LEO agencies, you know no one professional
and they're just used for occasional plinking at empty cans, nothing serous.

lol... get the point... But is it political?
Cause Colt is old company and guns were cheaper back many years ago so the government has a cheap contract with them cause the government are  like grandparents real cheap when it comes to spending money?

Also remember civilians dont recieve the same issue as the ARMY, NAVY, ETC> so is the personal weapon as good as the Military?

Thats why I ask persoanl opinions...

Honestly... I think civilians have a more quality choices than issued to the troops.  We don't have pesky things like .gov contracts and regulations and such.  I can think of a few things that i could go out and buy right now for my AR that perform leaps and bounds over what is issued to our troops... and if a grunt put them on their rifle they would be in troooouble.

All it takes is money.

I have a complete Spikes ST-15.  It has flawlessly run for about 2500 rounds now.  BCM and DD are also great, but being so close to Spikes and the fact that the Spikes is the same quality for less, money, go with the Spikes.  That said, my next one will be a DD upper on either a Spikes or BCM lower.  So, I am trying not to be biased, but rather pass on my honest opinion of my rifle and others I have seen.

Here are some pics of mine.

Why colt over DD and spikes? Armalite is out of the equation... Heard some of their parts u have to get their brand (dont know how tru that is)

I have 2 SP-1 Carbines and an HBAR that Colt made before DD was even around. No problems no issues. 2 are full time shooters and 1 is a truck gun. I have put all sorts of parts in Armalites (Have had 4 since 1995) and again no issues or problems. Never heard that one before concerning parts. If you put a pile of rifles in front of me and I could only pick one it would be a Colt as far as AR's go.

When i started in the AR arena they were not cool to own and there was Colt, that was it. Then I heard of Bushmaster and Olympic Arms. Tried an Oly CAR-15 copy that was a piece of shit then never bought another brand until my 1st Armalite. Now I have 2 of there M15 SPR's both are shooters and never an issue.
If you are eliminating brands based on rumor I highly suggest you get something quick and start learning before the rumors set in. Good luck.

Colt is top of the line.  Your dealer makes more money on other makes though it seems, or he is an idiot.  Colt had a bad rap about 15 - 20 years ago with some of their civilian models, but these days, their civilian models are basically the same thing as the military models with the exception of the automatic fire parts.  They source out a few parts, but make more parts in-house than most would think.  They have to keep this capability as they have military contracts and if suppliers went out of business, their own production would stop.  Part of their deal with the military is to retain industrial capacity to meet changing demand.

As has been said before, welcome.  Thanks for reading and asking good questions.  Per your research and the suggestions of others, Colt, BCM, Spikes, DD, LMT are all outstanding firearms.  I run spikes right now.  Really nice stuff and they have some really nice options to dress the guns up like the BAR and SAR rails and many barrel options.  Price is great too, but that is not the reason that I or others chose them.

Since he feels that his Colts aren't very good I'd try to get a deal on those POS rifles.  Have him put his money where his mouth is.

That being said the rifles mentioned Spikes, Bravo, DD are good choices.  I'd buy a Colt if it were me.

Yes, Colt is an old company.  They've been building ARs longer than anyone else.  Yes, guns were cheaper back many years ago, not now.  Colt isn't selling them to the gov. at the
same price they did in the 60's 70's 80's etc.  The gov isn't cheap when it comes to weapons and defense.  Look what they're willing to spend to kill one terrorist.  Biggest difference between
the military issue Colt and civilians Colt is the Happy Switch.  Colt has also stamped MP on their barrels and bolts for a long time, something other companies have just started.

I've never read anything bad about Spikes, DD, and I'm happy with my Colts and my BCM. If I lived 20mins from Spikes I'd at least go and talk to them and check the place out.

cue the AR chart -

seriously go over to spikes

I'm def. have to take a look at Spikes i'm in Orlando and their in Apopka... As for the Colt... He has 3 nice looking ones... Says he doesnt even use them. He perfers his Daniel over them... He said if I wanted he'll sell me his... He says that Colt was really good a few years ago when they manufactored their own products... They were the best!!! But now they slacked off and have other manuf. making their parts... But like I said i'm a noob dont know how tru that is...

Sounds like you are dealing with a typical gun shop (anti Colt) genius.  I've heard most of the stories.  "Colt is out of business, Military uses Colt because they were the low bidder,  Mattel made M16s back in the day,  bla, bla, bla".

Buy any of the brands you mentioned and you will never notice the difference.

NICE!!!! I'm leaning towards Spikes & DD now... lol... Both running the same price...

I'm leaning towards the Spikes and DD...

I can get the DD 20000 for $1200 out the door, comes with the Omega rail/hand guard, grips and gun case
If I go with Spikes it going to prob. Cost me the exact same so now I have to choose which one ...

Colts are alot more to get it with all the options the DD and Spikes will have would run about $2000

Out of those two, personally I would go with Daniel Defense.

of those you have listed i would go with the DD. but only because i like the lower and of course they use quality parts on their rifles. But really any of those rifles would serve you well. I might stay away from the Ruger.
