Ever notice how Chinese culture is a big part of the show, but you never see any Chinese people?

LOL.  There are Chinese people in nearly every big town scene.

The only asian character I've ever seen was that one chick at the whore house.

they are in the background. I did find it odd there weren't any main cast members that were asian or seemingly anyone in the alliance.

Since the premise of the show is Chinese and West cultures integrated, I figure after hundreds of years, pure Chinese would be rare.

WRONG.

The Chinese are one of the most insular cultures in existence.  They would hold themselves separate at almost any cost.  The influence of their culture is obvious in the show, but they would have their own enclaves where 'pure' Chinese would live away from the White Devils.

This is a sticking point for me in the show as there should have been some effect from the Chinese, even mixed race.

A lot of the extras are dressed in a traditional Chinese style.  It is odd that none of the named cast members were Chinese.

Lots of Asians in the larger cities.  Pre-Alliance worlds would have been colonized by one faction or the other.

Fail. They're all over. Pay better attention.

Well that settles it, the show is racist for not having any chinese people as any of the main characters.

Big deal.  Have you ever noticed in Chinese movies there are very few Caucasians and even fewer Blacks if any?  I don't really care one way or the other.

Off the top of my head, the first scene on Persephone has several.

There are Chinese extras in some of the town scenes.

Also, Kaylee was originally envisioned as Chinese according to Joss Whedon. Personally, I like Jewel Staite as Kaylee. She was shiny.

Someone here said that there is a Han Solo in carbonite figure somewhere in every episode...never noticed one...any truth to this?

If they are so insular, than that's a perfect explanation why a show following bunch of nefarious space cowboys wouldn't have alot of scenes with pure Chinese in it.  There's your answer.

The culture and language blended, and there are some people that still look Asian hanging out/cooking/selling in markets, and all the pure chinese societies are elsewhere not dealing with people like Malcolm Reynolds and Alliance Brass.

ETA: in the first episode they walk past a stand grilling dogs.  The Chinese are there, OP.

Please don't burst my bubble and tell me there's something unrealistic in this future-based sci fi show about a happy-go-lucky band of interstellar smugglers.

Go back to the ammo forum; nothing to see here.

The only real issue I have is that the Chinese would not accept the Alliance brass not being Chinese.  They would have to be the ones running the show.

Did anyone notice the SR-71 Blackbird in the "Trash" episode?  It was the second episode with the highly delectable Yo-Saff-Ridge (Christina Hendricks).

Yes...it was too obvious for my tastes.  And in the same episode when they first start working on the trash bin there's a display panel on the side of it (why?) that looks like a typical Windows screen with a driver installation going on.

I've been watching through the episodes for the very first time ever and have kind of mixed feelings about the series.
