On a scale of -10 through +10, the people that have the debates are probably the -10,-9, and -8, and +8, +9, and +10, members that are more vocal than the rest. Hence the disparity...

Yeah I'm with you on that one.

In general I seem to have a higher opinion of arfcom GD than many. There's so many intelligent people here and I love how there are true experts on just about any topic that comes up. I don't find it difficult to recognize the people that make valuable contributions while ignoring the noise.  It does help to generally never get upset or offended on the internet though.

I feel like there are a lot of people on here who really strive for the gun nut stereotype,

such as being racist, extreme right-wing, bible-thumping Christians, anti-science, etc.

Are most of you really like that, or is it more along the lines of those are the people that "talk" the loudest on here?

It also seems that when people argue about religion, they are either hard-core christian or hard-core atheist with no middle ground.

I was wondering if anyone was closer to where I am on these different spectrums?

Religion: I think that Hardcore Christians have their heads in the sand, but I think that hardcore atheists are condescending assholes and are more annoying than their christian counterparts. I'm more deist than anything

Gun Rights: I strongly support a responsible armed public, and will CC as soon as I turn 21.

Political: Bush infringed on freedom more than Obama has, but I dislike them equally. I hate reading all the racist remarks about Obama on here though, it just makes the poster sound ignorant.

Gay-marriage, Marijuana, etc: I think that if all of you want other people to respect your freedoms with guns, you should respect their freedoms with things you disagree with.

For example, I think that all of you anti gay-marriage people are hypocrites because you want the government to tell a group of people that can't do something based on your "morals", what if they did the same to you?

I personally think if you are against any reasonable freedoms (owning guns, marijuana NOT any other drugs, gay marriage, etc) you are anti-American.

I was raised Catholic and Republican for anyone who is wondering. So, is anyone with me, or am I going to be the outcast on here?

PS don't ban me, just looking for some mature discussion. Also, I've only noticed this in GD, the technical forums have been very informative and I love this site

Anti-science - We have a number of actual scientists on this site - out on that one too

The fact of the matter is GD is just like rest of the world - Most have no idea what Liberty is, and are fine defining it by picking and choosing who should have what Libertiesas long as they fit within their "ideals".  There are very few true Conservatives on this board, just like there are very few true conservatives in real life.  Most fit the contorted stereotypes that the media/Tea Party propogate and the only difference between these people and the Libs are the speed at which they want us to surrender our Liberties. This isn't any big deal as it is par for the course anywhere you go in this nation, and you ain't changing that until you can make people read and comprehend the Constitution.

I really enjoy the joking/banter/discussion on this site, there are a few very intelligent posters on here, but the WTF I read on here daily concerning personal liberty is as attrocious.  I see two or three 's a day, and that is trying to avoid the threads concerning the race, economy, and the "versus" threads.

YELLOW: I wouldn't worry. Every site needs people like you. Mods don't ban people for being brand new who feel the need to point out everything they feel is wrong about the site. But please, don't come here bashing the users, then say you're looking for mature discussion.

If you think Bush infringed more on freedom than Obama has you're either naive, a left winger, or an idiot.  The constitutional transgressions of the Obama administration are epic, Bush's were minor.  And most of what you were pissed at Bush for Obama has not only kept, he's expanded.

I think you're only reading the posts that support your view of the general attitude of the membership here.  Or at least, those are the ones that are standing out to you.  I find GD to be a group that represents a broad spectrum of thinking on any given topic.  Given that we're all members of a gun-related forum, you can expect that people will have fairly conservative views on many issues.  However, I'd say that every viewpoint has its defenders here.

I see plenty of folks who have moderate views on any given issue voice their opinions, they don't usually get quoted or argued with as much though.

Perhaps your beef is with the very nature of forum discussions.
