Ok gang, I need some divorce help. STBXW is living at the house with the kids. She refused to leave so I left. We went thru bankruptcy in August, I got laid off in November, rehired and start on Monday. I have offered to pay her child support in the amount that is required for my upcoming salary, and pay her for watching the kids while I work, kind of like day care fee. I see the kids often and she goes to school part time. She got a public defender because she apparently thinks she's entitled to stay in school and not work, because I am working and she has to watch kids. I've offered to put them in daycare so she can work. I believe she wants to stay in the home, watch kids during the day and go to school in the evenings, and have me pay all her bills. Obviously I need to get a lawyer if I can't work it out with her outside the courts, but money is tight due to using savings up during unemployment period. Any suggestions would be most helpful and appreciated. I've started a detailed journal of our conversations and my time with the kids and receipts for goods and bills of hers.

How in the hell do you get a public defender for a civil matter like  divorce. That  makes no sense at all.

DO NOT sign a quit claim deed until she gets your name off of the mortgage!!!!!!

See if you can get the judge to add a clause that she has so much time to get the house refinanced in her name without your name on it.

You will be responsible for the payments if she defaults even though your name would still be on the note and not on the deed.

Ask me how I know this.
