Easy–– just infiltrate the local criminal organizations and pass their initiation tests–– then you're good to go.

Cops treat informants the way prostitutes treat johns. You are a weird loser for them to use to their advantage. Very often the security sucks. Clerical people at the court, district attorney's office, and court will know who you are and what you are up to, not to mention cops talk too much. Buy a shovel and shovel the snow out of driveways.  At least one murder in my area, which has very few murders, was believed to be an informant.

Yeah, I was about to say... you want to go spy on murderers and thieves, then report back the info you learn to a whole raftload of people who, if any one of them runs their mouth could wind up getting you killed?

In that case, perhaps you could work your way up the corporate ladder with these organizations, then.  Just make sure they have good medical and dental coverage.  Wear your best suit to the interviews.

I would say that most cops view informants who are not working off criminal charges as wannabees who like to hang around cops, or just losers.

Most 'professional' informers ARE criminal rats...

They use their 'informer' status to protect their 'lesser' criminal activities from police attention....

Yes im aware of this. I was thinkin of it as a hobby. Bad guys are like whores. Fun to play with but never make them housewives. Plus the whole security issue. Contrary to popular belief not all bgs are stoopid

ok we get it, you know where some meth dealers are, or a lab(you are in iowa)and you want to capitalize on the situation.

become a snitch, profit from meth sales, then bust them, steal all of the $ from the dealers, and retire to a place where the ground does not freeze 1ft thick for months at a time.

I just have to ask. Why the hell would you want to do this? No one will ever trust you. You will be involving yourself with some serious lowlifes. Association with known criminals can hurt your future in more ways then you could think.

Imagine sometime in the future you are offered a position that requires a security clearance and it shows up that you are associated with known criminals. Do you really think that the DA or local chief of police is going to come to your rescue and clear your good name???

If you do this, you might as well paint a big florescent target on your head because your reputation won't be worth dog shit on hot Georgia asphalt.

Unless you have extensive criminal connections, and experience being a criminal, they probably aren't too interested in what you have to offer.
