So we are thinking about renting one for our family vacation next summer so we don't have to get felt up by the TSA goons.
But what are rules regarding the kids in them? Are they supposed to be in car seats? If so, how do the seats attach (it looked like there were no seats but just a big couch and a table with bench seats)? Can they lay down on the bed and take a nap while we drive? Can you go to the bathroom while it is moving? I'm only talking about the ones where the cab and the back part are attached. I know that noone is supposed to be in the ones that are dragged behind a pickup when it is moving. |

It varies by motorhome age and type IIRC. Some of the captains chairs have seat belts, some of the "dinnette tables" have seat belts in them as well, sometimes there aren't any at all. You need to check the RV itself, if my kids were/are car seat age I'd still have them in a car seat in an RV regardless of the law, it's a lot of space to fly around in if you crash it. |

The couch/ dinette fold to beds and there are seat belts in them. As I understand in Texas if they are in the back and they do not have to be in car seats they don't have to be in them in an RV. Where are y'all going and what part of Texas are you in? Travailing in RV's can be alot of fun, at least I always do. If you have any questions, PM me. |

I know that there are those that will disagree but if time allows, I will only travel in a motor home. Yes the people inside can move around as they need to, to use bathroom getting something to eat, reading or playing games. There are seat belts in different areas inside that people can use as needed. We are planning another trip from Alaska to the 'lower 48' this spring and for four weeks, 6600 miles we are planning on spending about $4200 dollars. I know that sounds like a lot, but by the time you figure in that we will be meeting family in seven different cities and four states it sure beats flying. Beside we get to see some really beautiful country that one would not see other wise. We can travel as far or as little as we want each day.
Renting an RV for a vacation also gives one a chance to see if that traveling style is for them. Go out and have fun. |
