Happens a lot here too.

Law enacted to punish people in the street racing scene. Get caught at or near a street race, car gets impounded for 30 days minimum.

Now it is being expanded to expired registration, non smog compliant vehicles etc. Would not surprise me to see it start being used for less serious moving violations in the next couple of years.

Sucks almost as bad as the "vehicle abatement team", a bunch of do nothing city assholes who drive around looking for "nuisance vehicles" like cars parked in driveways in any state of disrepair or without valid registration. These guys even have those periscope things to peer over fences into yards in search of vehicles that violate the standards. They have the authority to cite and even tow off of private property.

In addition to the usual cache of actual derelict cars, this has swooped up several non street driven race vehicles, desert toys and cars that are in the midst of restoration.

Land of the free indeed.

Sooner or later someone will come along that won't let them come and take what he's worked for- and it will end with more than one person loosing a life.... You can't take, take, take, and not have something give. This case it will be someone giving another some lead....

Just another case of civil asset forfeiture.  It's abused almost everywhere.  Should be ended.

Wow, talk about testing a mans limits. How far can they expect to push people before someone snaps and gives them what they deserve?

I think they are trying to get people to snap. Then the velvet gloves can come off.

I beleive this to be correct.
I speak with a lot of folks daily and when current events come up people whom I would never expect of being violent get visibly agitated. I would hazard a guess that if things don't improve soon, we will begin to witness random acts of violence. People are just that fed up.

Or the people of Denver could just vote these kind of dirtbags out of office. Not all big cities are like this. And we can resist passively en masse.

No need for killdozer

the problem is, someone in government thought that this was "okay" from the get-go.   I'll bet these people campaigned on Hope, Change and Free stuff for everybody too.   Maybe even a little "we care about YOU, Denver!" hopium thrown in.

The power of voting is quickly losing it's effectiveness, and at the end of the day bullies only recognize force, and the determination to use it.     I'm not saying people *should* resort to violence - I'm saying that the system is rigged, everyone knows it, and there are far too few honorable politicians left to vote for (not to mention, you're out-voted by 51% of the population who has no fucking clue as to what's going on - and don't care as long as the checks keep coming).    Matter of time before people start losing their patience with "the system" whether it's ethical or not.

Start parking junkers on every street. Let Denver fill its storage with scrap.

Then fill the city and county meetings.  Put the council on notice, then follow through at the next election and put them on the street.

Call me a cynic but I think they wouldn't put the hook on those.  I'm betting the scam is only for  vehicles you'd come after because the vehicle is worth more than the "fees".

Total bullshit,  and you wonder why people go to public meetings with intent to do harm to these kind of A'holes.

There are thousands of nice looking junkers available.

An alternate is to take junk to city hall to dump in the parking lots and streets.  It wouldn't need to be vehicles, just big and heavy; boats, snow machines, old threshing machines, steel pipe and beams, cast in place piles of concrete, or lots of other really annoying ways to make a point.

Dude, the cable is still on and the welfare is still rolling in, there'll be no snapping.  And if there is it'll be an 'isolated incident' by some 'right wing extremist' that's probably 'linked to the Tea Party' with a 'radical agenda.'  The masses are to fat and lazy to do anything about anything, especially if it involves getting off Facebook and standing up.

*rolls over to get another twinkie*

I can tell you exactly how its done because I've been there in a former job.  These car nazis were probably housing code people.  The same people who license rental properties.  Then, eith er due to lack of fees or some council member looking to generate more fees, passes an ordinance and tasks the housing code folks to start doing this too...most likely with a quota.

Now what do you do? Do you take the moral stand, say hell no and lose your job or do you bite your tongue and keep your job?  This is exactly what happened at my former job.  I enforced fire code and had no problems with that.  Then, some politician became the director, reorganized everything and started pressing his public opinion into people's private lives.  As soon as that happened, I found a new job and haven't looked back.  With the economy the way it is, many people don't have that option.

Oh, and f*&k Denver.
