You are walking along, holding an umbrella for your wife.   You approach a gate with an obstruction above.  It is made of steel.  Choose one:

a.  You should lower the umbrella, close the umbrella, pass the umbrella through the gate and open it on the other side.

b.  You should leave the umbrella open, pass it over the top of the obstruction and continue on the other side.

c.  You should continue to hold the umbrella in the same position because a metal solid will pass through another metal solid unobstructed.  It is a law of physics.

d.  You should give the small umbrella to a Secret Service body guard and get a larger umbrella on the other side of the gate because the small one you are holding is woefully insufficient to cover your wife.

e.  You should resign because you are too dumb to hold a public office.

To be fair, I imagine that he is trying to do (b) - which I think is a reasonable choice, and the one that keeps his wife dry - and the camera caught him at an unflattering moment, or he realized the door frame is taller than he originally thought.

It's like how Gerry Ford never lived down falling on his face.

That's the difference between us and them.

looks to me like the umbrealla would fit though the doorway while still open and provide uninterupted cover.
edit:  and it would surely go though partially closed and still provide cover.

I agree.

But after the way the media and libs hounded Bush for his human moments over the eight years he was in office, I think a precedent was established.  I firmly believe that we should treat the current president with the same level of respect the previous one was accorded.

That could be the case. Hardly any rain would have hit her if he would have passed it over the fence to the side of the doorway too.

I'm 6'6" so the choice at hand would me much easier for me.

Another option: The umbrella looks like it could be tipped slightly sideways thereby fitting through said doorway and keeping said Wookie from having her fur matted by the rain.

What would you have said if that was Bush?

I'm not an Obama supporter in any way shape or form.  But I just think there are plenty more things to be bashing him on that this overplayed picture.

Why does she always have that forward leaning, not quite upright, stance/gait?

1. Probably something similar, I was not a fan of Bush either

2. Plenty more things........... yes, but I needed a break from the constant barrage of  things he is doing to destroy our country. Just needed a little humor today

I'd have laughed just like I did at this.
