| I was in history class and we were talking about ww2 in the Pacific theatre. I got onto the topic of the japanese and I said" Well the Japs did x, and x." I got removed from the class because it was offensive I guess. I tried in plead my case in that its the same as calling a jewish person a jew. I further went on to explain that my grandfathers who both served in ww2 hated the Japanese and they called them nips. Never once did I hear them call em Japs when they were expressing hatred towards them. Anyway, just wondering if this teacher was a loser or if i was in the wrong? |

Yeah, I've heard that many people use the term "Japs" as a derogatory term toward the Japanese, but I use it all the time not meaning for it to be derogatory. I find that it's a convenient shortening of the term Japanese. I wouldn't use it in a formal paper or anything, but I think in a vocal medium, it's all about context.
I think it's kind of like using the term "Negro" for black people. Hell, I guess it's even kinda like using the term "Black" for black people. |

I agree, I have same heritage and I either want everyone to say whatever they want or none of it. None of this you cant say this but you can say it about x group of people. So I don't think he liked the fact that since he was calling me racist that look at the Mormon church excluding blacks until the 70s. Boy he was pissed about that one. I do stupid shit to be funny, but to get reprimanded for something of that caliber I thought it was dumb. Oh well I now know the game of education and will get the grades I want and keep my pie hole shut. |

I got into a shit storm in a history class once. The professor was on a rant about how racist it was to bomb the Nips into submission. Prof:"We didn't or wouldn't do *THAT* to any other culture"... From the back of the room in a quiet but clear tone..."Bullshit". Gasps all around. Prof: "Excuse me? Who said that"? Me: "I did" Prof: "Explain yourself"(In a very condescending tone) Me: "I said 'bullshit'. Our country killed thousands and thousands of people in one night. Women and children. Old men. Burned them to death. They all looked like me(blond hair, blue eyes, fair skin). It wasn't about race. It was about war. It was about killing so many of them, they couldn't fight anymore.
