While in my younger years I hunted in Canada and saw vehicles with an electrical cord to heat the engines of vehicles and am wanting to know what the best engine heaters are.
I've googled the subject and there seem to be alot of options. My question is what heater type is best...Water circulating or oil type "freeze plug" heaters? What say the hive? I want to be sure to spend once and get the best bang for the buck. BTW, my truck is a '67 Chevy 4X4 with a 454 BBC. (Not a factory option.) So which engine heater is used in seriously cold climates? Or which combination? Do I need a battery heater as well? Cold weather guys chime in PLEASE! |

Dupe
I ended up buying a circulating tank heater that you work into the heater hose, but havnt installed it yet because I cant find the fucking coolant drain plug in the block. |
| I had the factory freeze plug type in a 94 Cherokee and a 01 Caravan. They were factory installed and added only $25-$35 to the cost. The nice thing was it would keep your coolant at about 100 degrees so the car warmed up real quick and the heat was nice after 5 minutes. The downside was that it uses over 1,000 watts per hour so it get expensive when you're paying for the electricity. I suggest to put it on a timer to turn on 2-3 hrs before anticipated driving. |
