After shutting off the ps3 when it has been connect to the internet connection, I have to reboot my modem and wireless router.

I can not access the internet thru my hardwired pc, wireless laptop or Ipods until I reboot he router and modem.

My ps3 is hardwired into the wireless router which is a Wireless G Router.

Is there a setting i need to change on my PS3 that could be causing this problem?

That's really odd - did you try the wireless connection just for grins? I assume the problem is repeatable? It's happened every time?

I haven't tried the wireless since i didn't want to type in that 2 foot long password. But will give it a try.

It does seem to happen about every time i had the ps3 connected to the internet.

Some routers limit the number of users by assignment. If yours is set too low,it could be causing the devices to try to share the same address.

When the issue happens, try to narrow down whether the problem is with the router or the modem. Try rebooting the router only and see if it fixes the problem. If it does, it's a router issue. If it doesn't, try rebooting the modem only. If this fixes it, it's a modem issue. Then go from there. Try renewing your IP address or try pinging the router/modem to see where the connection dies.

Good point. OP should check if the router is set to limit the number of DHCP addresses handed out.

are you going

modem to ps3

or

modem to router

and switching back and forth?

most cable modems lock on a mac address until reboot, comcast being the worst

Is the PS3 connected wired or wireless?  Sometimes some wireless routers get weird when several wireless things are connected to them.  My moms Netgear would basically lock up if you connected to it wirelessly with a ipod touch.   But, only after the Ipod touch was no longer connected to the router.  You would just reset the router and it would be ok.  I updated the firmware and will see if that fixes it?  My friends Linksys would start dropping wireless connections if you connected more than one wireless device.  I looked the router up and it was a known issue.  After a firmware upgrade it fixed it.

we had this problem.  Everytime my son went online with the ps3, it would knock the other computers in the house off.  They had to be shut down and rebooted.

Go to bestbuy or where ever and tell them the problem.  Ours was our wireless router.  For some reason and I will use the words "not capable of handling" the ps3 and other computers at the same time.

Guy at bestbuy showed me a router I needed, went home installed, problem fixed.

I switched over to wireless and finally got the ps3 and computer to recognized the media folders.

Played around with the music files and internet.

Then i shut the PS3 down and went straight to the computer and was able to connect to the internet without any problems.

Now I am running xbox, PS3, Desktop, couple of laptops and Ipods.

Wondering how slow everything will get if they all connect at the same time?

It is modem to wireless router then to a switch.(switch breaks off to 3 other connections)

Switched PS3 to wireless seems to have fixed the issue.

Depends on how fast your internet connection is and how much each device will use the internet. Usually not every device is downloading lots of data at the same time.
