I am pretty much clueless when it comes to computers and software.  My question is, how important is Adobe Reader and Java.  Can I delete them without ill effects? What will I NOT be able to do if I delete them?  Thanks.

You won't be able to read .PDF files and tons of stuff you take for granted on websites.

Why do you want to uninstall them?

Delete your system32 folder before you delete that stuff.

Do you read PDF documents? If not, you don't need Adobe reader. (Adobe software is riddled with security vulnerabilities so if you do use it make sure you update it frequently. If you don't use it removal is highly recommended)

Some programs rely on the Java runtime environment to work. If you are not sure if you use any than I would recommend not removing it. This is also something that should be updated frequently if you decide to keep it.

I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to anatomy.

My question is, how important is that "third leg"?

Can I cut it off without ill effects?

What will I NOT be able to do if I cut it off?

Thanks...

It's really hard to surf the web without Java.

If you're like most people, remove them if you like.  If it causes problems, they can freely be readded.  And there are alternatives to Adobe.
