Anyone try it or still train? I have been taking Krav classes for the past year and want to try something different. Looks like there is a school that is right down the street from me. I would like to hear your thoughts on its pros and cons. Thanks |

About 1.5 years here.
Systema, from what I've heard, tends to vary a lot from school to school, as there are a few different "masters" that have passed down their own versions. Likewise, a key concept of systema is that you do what works for you. Thus, individual instructors will have their own views too. For example, my instructor mixes the various forms of systema, sambo, Asian arts, and so on. We aren't really a strictly systema school. Some students will tell you differently, but I'd say systema isn't going to make you a super capable fighter by itself. I find that the most capable people are the ones who have applied it to other arts they've studdied. Likewise, some pure systema stuff just looks like total bullshit. We try to avoid the mystical stuff here. Systema is largely what you make of it. If you go in with an open mind and try the class, taking what you find useful and leaving what you don't, you may find some stuff you like. If you go in as a skeptic, I don't think you'll get much out of it. ETA: we've had a couple krav students join us in the last couple months. They both have been pretty happy with evertlythkbg so far. I've also been impressed with their techniques. |
