Interesting, though private security would still have to follow TSA guidelines.  I remember when the Bush administration was "considering" whether to go with government security or private security in the wake of 9/11.  How anyone could have thought that the government would choose a private option is beyond me, and how anyone could think that the government would be more effective than the private sector is also beyond me.  Well, close to ten years later, we have this:

Orlando Sanford International Airport has decided to opt out from TSA screening.

"All of our due diligence shows it's the way to go," said Larry Dale, the director of the Sanford Airport Authority. "You're going to get better service at a better price and more accountability and better customer service."

Apparently, they can, but as the article says, they would still have to follow TSA security guidelines, which includes the body scanners and sexual assaults.
