Never heard of Leopold before.

Leupold, OTOH, makes a wide variety of scopes.  Some are better than, and some are worse than, Vortex scopes.

Well, there are no 20 year old Vortex scopes, but yeah, their warranty is bulletproof from what I hear.

Just got my Leupold Prismatic back from warranty service yesterday.  Other than the fact that I'm annoyed that the optic proved defective after only very minimal use, their warranty service was headache-free.  About one month, door-to-door.

Did not need a receipt; just sent it in.

I believe it varies based on model.

Sam from Vortex posts here.  Ask him.

I believe the Razor line is made in Japan and the Viper line in the Phillipines. I have 2 Viper scopes and Viper binocs and am happy with them. I would say if you compare an equal priced Leupold to Vortex, the Vortex will be on par with the Leupold at least.

Vortex took cheap Asian products, added their own level of strict quality control and specs, and made a good product.  They are still cheap enough with enough profit margin to warranty the hell out of them.

Not everything from Asia is crap, just much of it.

By the pricing on their web-site , that makes sense .

I have no problem at all with Japanese optics . Bushnell and Tasco ( and a few others) were both decent scopes for the money when they were being produced in Japan . The same models that are now produced in china, the philippines , malaysa , etc , just dont compare ( from what Ive seen through)

Japan is decent glass . As for the rest of those Asian/island 'countries' . . . .they, and their products can suck moist farts from my fat Yankee ass .

I only have one experience with Customer Service from Vortex. The threads on a mount got a little banged up. I called and asked if I could get a replacement I would pay for it. CS agent took my name and address, made sure it was the right mount and said I should expect it in a few days....gratis. Sent me the whole mount. If that is what they are like every time they are good to go.

Definitely go with Leupold.  I use to work there, and the company genuinely cares about the product and customer-base.
Not the mention, the product is of excellent quality.
