I have started a few threads this year about various cold weather gear (i know i am in GA but i dont have much natural insulation ) and just wanted to return the the favor to you guys a little. I received a lot of help and advice from various members here about cold weather gear and i have made several purchases and have my cold gear sorted out for now.
I found a great jacket from Cabelas Mountain Sherpa this thing is awesome. It is really warm, and blocks wind very well while sitting still (prob not gonna block wind higher than 40 MPH) and it is affordable. I am 6'1 195 and bought the Regular large at first but it was too sort for my liking (came down to my waist line, sleeves came up above my wrists about an inch with arms out in front of me) the large tall length has an extra two inches in the length and one and a half inches in the sleeve. It comes down to about the middle of my hind quarters and the sleeves stay at my wrists with my arms straight out in front of me. no pit zips which i love (you will get hot in this jacket with a moderate amount of movement). It has a drawcord hem and the wrists while not elastic fit great, the pockets are deep and will actually warm you hands. I have worn this jacket hunting with a thermal shirt and wool sweater and stayed nice and toasty. The exterior is a soft Berber fleece and the interior is some kind of soft poly blend i think they call it wind sheer.or something. |
| You can compare it to this Patagonia Retro X i tried all sorts of jackets on before i bought the one from Cabelas. |
