Beaten again...sometimes it sucks hanging out with so many people who know as much(or more) as I do about firearms.

And a .50 BMG on the roof of his townhouse.

I've since redecorated my user I.D. .

But still a great fan of the film.

And yes, it's a S&W Model 76, which (if I am not mistaken) is itself basically a knockoff of the Carl Gustav Model 1945 "Swedish K."

speaking of that model subgun and movies of that era, does anyone recall a cold-war era movie about america and china?/ asian superpower coming to the brink of nuclear war and agreeing to decide the issue with a single combat of champions on some pacific desert isle? The 'american hero' had a pair of these subguns (or something very like them) mounted together side by side IIRC, with colored tape on the mags.  It was sort of like Lee Marvin's 'Hell in the Pacific'. Can't remember the actor, dark hair, was in some spy tv series.

your not mistaken. I had read, it was loosely based off of the Gustav design. Everytime I watch the movie I have to take it out of the safe.
Mine is a knock off...but its still cool

Interesting factoid.  The Model 76 has a semiauto setting.  Not that I'd ever shoot one that way...

I don't see how the apes got firearms in the first place, but it was still good.

Wrong Heston film.

The problem I had with the movie was the lousy "spray and pray" technique he used. That was typical of the times I suppose. The "night-vision" scope cracked me up, there was enough light in the street to use a regular 40mm scope.

How did you like the big, old fashioned, metal Ray-O-Vac flashlight he had mounted on the 76?

No Surefires in those days.

Darren McGavin vs. Mako in "The Challenge".

The other American that "showed up" on the beach was Sam Elliott.

Mako was using something like a Beretta M38 from WW 2 if I am not mistaken.

Weird choice of weapons for that movie, better for Omega Man though.
