Went to Wally world today to get a few things. Parents are coming over for dinner tonight and I'm grilling bratwurst. I also needed some beer for my brats to rest in. They needed a beer bath before going on the grill. When I get to the counter to checkout- the cashier tells me I can't purchase any beer til after 6pm due to the elections going on- she said it was a new law.. I told her that was the craziest thing I'd ever heard of and left Walmart and went to the fine wine and liquor store- I then walked out with my Newcastle Brown Ale for my brats to swim in.. I think the cashier was retarded- but I wasn't going to stand there and argue with her. Anyone else ever heard this before? Sorry but this is a first for me..

I think that law just died in Indiana.  I believe West Virginia and Kentucky are the only states that have a prohibition during polling hours.

You don't live in Indiana then, No alcohol sales on Sunday, unless it's from a restaurant or business where a minimum percentage of their income is from prepared food.

Unless you have friends that own bars and gift you beer to go.

I hadn't heard the no sales on election day shit but in WV you cannot buy liquor on Sundays.  Only beer and wine.  Fucking blue laws win again!  Thanks for legislating when I am allowed to spend my own fucking money.

Indiana has some weird laws about alcohol.  Not sure why Hoosiers are so scared of it.  I was talking to the mouth breather working at the beer store one night after work and she was adamant that children should never be allowed to go into a liquor store.  My point was that the liquor itself isn't bad, and that children should have the opportunity to learn about it, cuz they're gonna whether from me or their friends.  I'd rather it be from me.  I drink beer occasionally in front of my grandkids and even have them bring me one now and then.  Of course Granny has to open it for them but they love to bring me a frosty one.

Probably goes back to the days when the pols would go and buy a crowd of folks a few rounds at the local watering hole and then Pied Piper them down to the polling places.
I don't know if this is something that I remember from school or if I just made it up, but it sounds good, right?

It was that way in New Mexico when I lived there. Also when I first moved there there were no alcohol sales on Sunday. It later changed to no sales on Sunday until after Noon.

In states that have the 'no alcohol sales until polls close' Walmart's cash register is programmed not to scan beer or wine bar codes on those days - during those hours. The cashiers or manager can't override or force the machine to allow the sale.

"The new law will also allow liquor sales while the polls are open on Election Day. That will leave just two states –– West Virginia and Kentucky –– with Election Day prohibition laws in place."

This article was from April.  I'm pretty sure it all passed...I bought my beer yesterday to be safe, though.
