Yeah that bit in the beginning with the little girl was creepy.

By the way, I love the use of oppressive silence as a cinematic device in this.

Didn't Zombieland have a bunch of little girl zombies?  Maybe I'm thinking of another film.

I believe it's a "moral" event horrizon Hollywood writers and actors do not want to cross so it is ignored. Not only that but could you imange the bitching about a movie depciting children(zombies) being killing in graphic ways? It just won't fly. Wasn't there some rage over the last Aliens movie because the predators killed a few kids?

The only zombie title I know of where the children angle is covered is the anime "High School of the Dead." Children do become zombies, they do attack people, and are killed in return.

Because killing kids in movies is generally considered poor form.

Dawn of the Dead (1978) had a pair of children attack Peter at the airport.  Dawn 2004 had a zombie newborn.

People have already extensively covered the meta-reasons for why they ain't no zombie kids, but let's think of in-world explanations of why kids might be less likely to get all zombied up.

1. If you ascribe to the juices-only zombie infection theory, then it's possible that since children are weaker and slower than adults, they are more likely to be killed outright and destroyed by zombies (i.e., mostly or entirely eaten) than they are to be wounded (and thereby infected), and escape consumption to become zombies themselves.

2. Since children are still growing, maybe the zombie-plague-thing can't take over their brains properly, so they just die and don't reanimate.

Or assuming it's a non-reanimation plague (IE just people with a REALLY MESSED UP version of rabies... like in Left 4 Dead), the virus causes death on children, since their immune systems are so weak. The virus, while not killing adults, still causes their bodies and minds to deteriorate and become zombies.

didn't you see the premier of AMC's The Walking Dead tonight?  It starts off with a zombie kid.

Yes, I saw that also. I guess they have to through in the one proverbial zombie kid in the movie.

Actually, just about every zombie movie I can think of has at least one zombie kid in it.

I've seen a couple zombie movies with children zombies... I had a dream not too long ago that included zombified little girls trapped in an SUV, throwing a serious shitfit as I walked by it, bashing their heads against the window of the vehicle trying to eat my brains

Although I am a die hard zombie fan, the thought of zombie kids is pretty disturbing to me as a father.  It's my own little mental issue.  I can handle the most gory scenes but put a kid zombie in there and I fucked up in the head.  Not sure what it is just can't handle it.

Actually, the very first Frankenstein, Frank playfully kills a kid by throwing her into a lake.

That caused uproar and censorship... and it's kind of been taboo ever since.

Killing kids on screen is overly gratuitous I guess.

It was kinda shocking to see it on The Walking Dead IMO.
