Have the words “Homies” and “Homes” been so ingrained that they are accepted as common English Language or is it still somewhat ghetto speak?
Urban Dictionary definition ––- Short for "homeboy", someone who is in your neighborhood. Example ––- Sup daw'? Me an' ma homes wuz out knittin da sweatas wit my mama lass nite, bro.. Were you been at? |

ma baby vato didnt do nuffin! Fixed! No you didn't. You got no Metsicans there in MD do you? No Mama would call her baby vato, especially to the popo or the news. She would call him her hijo or hijito but never vato. That would just be wrong. As for the Homies / Homes issue. Homies is correct usage but Homes is just another example of gringo deafness. Homes is more properly "Holmes" as in Sherlock and is used when addressing a single individual as in "Hey Holmes. What the fuck." Homies is used to refer to a group of individuals with whom the speaker has a friendly association, as in "Don't fuck with my homies." Some scholars may disagree with this definition but that' simply because they're fucking wrong. Since you are in MD you are permitted your error. Were you here in northern Mexico I would be obligated to gather up my more linguistically and grammatically astute homies and lay down some education all over your ass Holmes. |

So who do we blame? Cheech Marin? Yes. Do you have any Metsicans in IN? Not as any as we used to. The bad economy has it's silver lining. Don't worry. We'll be back. I've talked to some of my cousins and as soon as the economy rebounds they'll be on the way. |

At least it didn't catch on like some other ghetto phrases do, pisses me off that "my bad" has become a normal everyday household phrase. |
