I read the story on that set of pictures recently. Told by another captain that was just ahead of him. Briefly--the tug caught water badly (IIRC he was supposed to dump the barge, it goes under the bridge, and he goes upstream and takes a fork in the river, and catches the barge downstream. The tugs have a large amount of ballast in the bottom of the hull, so it will always right itself. The water only went into the wheelhouse, the remainder of the tug is watertight. Still makes for an interesting series of pictures, though. |
