What the hell is it exactly? It says "pork loin" on the package. Do these poor souls not know what real bacon is? |
|
Fail. "Bacon" refers to many kinds of wet or dry cured meat, typically/traditionally pork, and often (but not always) smoked.
Bacon originated in Europe where the use of the belly for bacon is less common than the use of the side and back (i.e. the loin). In the UK for example back bacon (a slice of loin with a rim of fat and a "tail" of side meat) is more common than streaky (belly) bacon. Both types of bacon are good. Get Both! (Canadian bacon however is a poor imitation of good back bacon and should be avoided) |

Quoted: Quoted: If their geese arent supposed to be called "Canadian geese" but rather are supposed to be called "Canada geese" why is their "bacon" not "Canada bacon"? It would have been much easier to just call it "ham" like the rest of the world. But it aint ham. |

Quoted: Just wonderful, I bought a pack of Canadian Bacon and now I just want to throw it in the trash. Throwing away unspoiled pork is a hanging offense. ![]() Belly bacon is damn good, but so is back bacon. They're two different products from the same magical animal. |

No real Canadian is gonna order "Canadian Bacon" on a pizza or other thing. ITS HAM DAMN IT! HAM! |

Canadian Bacon is awesome. It tastes and looks like ham. It is cooked in a skillet, just like ham. It tastes great on biscuts, just like ham. Ham, or bacon, or sausage... I will eat it. And it makes a fucking outstanding topping on a pizza!! No kidding. And the small round slices are bigger that your typical pepperoni. It makes the pizza look nice. I like to fry up the meat before the pizza.. It helps the cheese to melt because all the meat toppings block the heat. Meat topping go on 5 minutes before its done. FWIW the only reason I know what canadian bacon is , is because of Pizza Hut and being a very picky kid. |

End of story. |

Its not called Canadian Bacon up here. Its called Peameal Bacon, which is basically uncooked ham in brine, rolled with a cornmeal coating.
I have never seen it ever referred to as Canadian bacon here ever, also without the cornmeal coating on the edges its not the same stuff. We have regular bacon, which is called bacon just like you guys. Its available in all the normal cuts, smoked, maple syrup, thicker, low sodium whatever..... lots of choice. Peameal bacon is a nice low fat alternative, it tastes great on sandwhiches to. |
