Is it just me or are the newest generation of gamers spoiled brats? Jeez, they whine when any developer actually wants to make a buck or two with their DLC's and such. last I checked, making money was the reason people made games, wasn't it? |
| I'm not a new gamer but I'm not going to pay $15 for 2 extra maps. I don't expect it to be free but...if I want to play custom maps I'll play on a custom map server. Esp since the only games that have DLC right now are terrible pieces of shit filler games to hold people over until third quarter 2010. |
| If the DLC is worth it, then I consider it. However, I'm more worried about how the new breed of gamers are all about "Get that *@^$ mother@$&$(( he killed my *&$%$@3 hating ass!! I pwn j00 @(&$ cause I pwn and I'll &(@&$ your girlfriend and mom!" every 5 seconds. |

Quoted: I don't know if they are whiney. I just know I've been at this since the 90s and most PC games are no where near as good or as interesting as they were back then. You can thank consoles for that. Most games today are simply shitty console games ported over for PC. For example, Joint Ops - 60 + players in one server, swim underwater, vehicles, aircraft, maps that were literally endless. Now games have devolved to the COD/Bad Company level. Mods are the only way to get a good game nowadays. |
| Well, the price of games has gone up and quality has gone wayyyyy down. So, they do kind of have a reason to bitch. The best value I ever got out of a game was when I bought half-life when I was in high school. Then I downloaded counter-strike for free and a ton of other hl mods that kept my interest for over 6 years. Ya, better stuff started coming out with better graphics, but most of the maps and mods were free and made with only one intention, fun. And they succeeded. For the last 3 years, I bought call of duty 4, then waw the next year, then mw2 and all their stupid map packs. Pay 60 for the game, then 30 more for map packs till next november when you have to rinse and repeat because no one will play the old one anymore when the new one comes out. I'm gettin tired of spending so much on disposable games that have such a short life. |

Quoted: Quoted: DLC has gone from a $10 add-on to doubling the cost of the game. The DLC's for fallout double the cost, and doubles the game play. Fallout's DLC was very good, especially Broken Steele and Point Lookout. Most are not as good. Like Mass Effect 2 where you pay like $7 for a new mission that takes all of two hours (and you end up having to pay more because you just can't buy $7 worth of microsoft points), or MW2 where you pay $15 each for 5 maps, two of which are rehashes from the last game. |

Probably because it used to be free ? ![]() Quoted:
PC developers charging $59.99 a title now and removing certain features such as LAN play and requiring online activation can fuck off and die. Quoted:

I played the shit out of Civilization and Civ 2. Fucking endless free user-created mods was the best. The only 'puter games I play nowadays are the Total War series. I played Medieval: Total War for years, then Rome for a while. I need to get a new PC, only thing we have now is the wife's Mac. My copy of Empire: Total War is sitting at my parent's house, collecting dust. I'd love to drag that game out and play it. |

DLC used to otherwise known as "expansion packs" before the world of fast internet.
You know I'm fine with paying for DLC as long as it actually adds to the game. I'm fine with game developers running ad's in online games to make extra money. However all this anti-piracy bs, is just that. Requiring an online connection for a single player game sucks dick, no dedicated servers to beat hackers(and fail miserably) sucks ass. Requiring background programs to run(steam) games blows. I can understand the desire to make money and protect your investment. However I think anymore they're taking it a bit to far. |

There was some figure for the latest railroad tycoon type game. If you got all the DLC, it came in to around $750. I grew up with free map releases and extras with no cost. Now most of the games you can't even build mods for, and you can forget custom maps. To be honest I liked the PC gaming community 10 years ago before it became a corporate crapfest. Some of the most popular games started out as free mods (Team Fortress, Counter Strike, etc), built and tested by the community. |
