I'm needing a set of general purpose boots. Hunting with fair distance walks, hiking, yard work, still nice enough to wear out with jeans. I like the Bates M-9. They look comfy:

But the suede is going to get dirty as all hell and be a bitch to clean, and I would rather not wear something that screams tactical boot like the coyote color does. I found these Oakley Tactical Six that are more along the lines of what I'm looking for, but I know nothing about them:

What I'm really looking for is something as comfortable as a tennis shoe, with a really grippy sole for sandy/rocky terrain, 6"+ for ankle support, easy to keep clean (no suede, full grain leather or 100% nylon OK), preferrably brown, for less than $120.

Oh and for God's sake it can't have yellow rubber tags all over the damn things. No one needs to know that my boots are Gore-Tex®, Waterproof, Steel Toe, Wolverines just by glancing at the neon signs on my boots.

What say ARFCOM?

This.
I have 6 pr's of Danners. The latest are Marine Hot. They look similar to the first pic and are very comfy. They are also downstitched, unlike the pr in the pic, and can "rebuilt" and kept for life. And best of all, they are made in the USA.

I really like my Danner Acadias, but the liner separated early on it life from the bottom of the boot. I got the light insulation model, and it's pretty good for walking around in cold weather down to 10deg. I wouldn't want to wear them all summer, but they do well most of the year. If I could do it over I wouldn't get any insulation and just wear extra socks when it gets cold.

Time for what has became my canned response in these threads: I love Bates bootes. I've got a pair of
the Ultra Lite side zip boots in black, and have had them for nearly 6 years.  They are starting to show their
age, but it's around the cuff of the boot. Not sure why, but the leather is breaking down there.

I bought a pair of the GX-8 style in January, and I really like them. I would wear them more, but like you said the
suede is awful to clean. Another side problem is that with the composite safety toe, I've been itching to kick someone!
I haven't yet, but it is soooo tempting everytime I wear them.

Couldn't find anywhere in the U.S. so bought these.

I had a pair of these for so long the leather finally started to dry rot/crack.  I freaking loved these boots.  Wore them every day for years.

Now I want another pair.  Thanks alot Utah_Sniper.

I have goofy sized feet.  I could not find a pair of danners or bates that felt comfortable.  I ended up buying a pair of Georgia boots.
They are decent and comfortable.  I think I paid $160 for them.

I wish I could find boots for myself.  I wear a size 17 and I'd love a pair of boots like the vibram ones you posted OP.

I had a pair of Asolo's that I wore for years and really liked.  However my dad just bought a pair of Lowa's and think they're the best he's ever tried.

meindl boots

Bought a pair of meindl's through cabelas and I have never bought anything else.  Super comfortable.  I wear them all day everyday at work and I do a ton of hiking in them as well.

I loved my Asolo's, and am currently wearing La Sportiva's for my backpacking boots as well as my trail running shoes. LOVE them. Need new trail shoes though. Got mine on sale for $18, shipped. Going to be hard replacing them with their current model, which is $150...

I've got the same ones. Most comfortable boot I've ever put on my feet. That being said, everybody's feet are different and differnt manufacturers fit differently.

If you don't want goretex, look at the afx 535 ( if they still make them)

I have these. They are very comfortable (pillow like feel) and are more of a trail boot for comfort.

I tried this one on, very close to the same comfort but has alot more support and is a heavy duty boot.

That's what I did.  Decent boots, haven't worn them except to check size - but they're like catnip to the cat for some reason - she can't help but bite them every chance.

Decent price, shipped fast, seemingly good boot.  When it cools down I'll use them.
