Long story short...

Vernon Baker was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his heroism in defense of this country during WWII. So, he gets to be buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

Last month he died at the age of 90. His wife is still alive, but she is too poor to afford the trip to out to Arlington to see her husband buried. So along comes US Representative Walt Minnick (D-ID) who donates his frequent flier miles.

The thing is that Walt Minnick is the former CEO of a timber company and he's worth about $16 million.

Now here's a guy who's got all kinds of money, and as a politician...a DEMOCRAT no less, here's a guy who has the perfect opportunity to make the whole state of Idaho love him like he was a cross between Mickey Mantle and Captain America. All he has to do is spend a couple grand of his millions to put some old lady on an airplane, stick her in a fancy hotel for a couple days, maybe take a couple pictures etc. After all, her husband DID win the Medal of Honor. It was his big chance to ensure his re-election without even having to campaign. What does he do instead? Donates his frequent flier miles.

Such generosity from these Democrats.

You don't WIN the Medal of Honor. It is something AWARDED / EARNED.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"The Medal of Honor is the highest military decoration awarded by the United States government.

It is bestowed on members of the United States armed forces who distinguish themselves "conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his or her life above and beyond the call of duty while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States."

FYI - It was the Republican congressional delegation of Idaho that worked overtime to make sure Vernon Baker's service did not go unrewarded and that he got the recognition he deserved.

Minnick is a typical self-promoting Democrat, using taxpayer dollars to *give* to others, then trumpeting his *noble* deed all over the press (again using taxpayer funds).

He is a hypocrite of the first order - pretends to be conservative to get votes (the public Minnick) but behind the scenes actually bends over backwards to ensure Obama's treasonous socialist agenda is shoved down our throats (the real Minnick).

First off, this thread is going pretty much exactly like I expected it would.

AR15.com LOVES to defend "The Rich", regardless of the circumstances. I had no delusions that everyone would jump on the bandwagon with me and start criticizing this guy, especially when I pointed out the fact that he was wealthy. Go take a look at some of my previous threads. Bill Gates went on C-SPAN promoting Death Panels, and has helped the Communist Chinese oppress the Chinese people by writing special version of it's software which prevent people from searching for terms like "Liberty" and "Freedom" on the internet. But AR15.com LOVES him because he's a business man.

I am showing AR15.com it's own hypocrisy.

Here's a guy who has voted to spend all kinds of tax payer money, a guy that the Left hoped would break The Right's strangle hold on politics in Idaho (do a google search and you'll see the hopes they had for him). This guy is a multi-millionaire, but they can't accurately estimate his wealth because he has his assets all twisted around. Congress estimates his wealth between -$1,250,000 and $16,000,000.

But he's a saint because he gave up a couple of Frequent Flyer miles.

I'm the one who is delusional?

That's rich.

Look, we all get that you hate rich people, and banks, and corporations, and blah blah blah - but the reality of the matter is that no matter how you slice it, this guy reached into his own pocket and helped this lady out.  The fact that her ticket was purchased with his frequent flier miles instead of his money makes ZERO DIFFERENCE to the only thing that matters in this story, which is that she is now going to be able to make the funeral in Arlington.

Do I think the guy deserves to be worshipped and idolized because of it - no, absolutely not.

But to deny that he did a decent and good thing, and to try to tear him down because of it, is pure bullshit.

Also, I find your point to be a very confusing and inconsistent one.  You original argument was that he should have GIVEN MORE and spent MORE of his own money to help her.  But, you are also criticizing him for wanting CREDIT for having helped her - even though your original post says that he should have helped her more, and had some pictures taken with her, so he could get credit.    So you are saying he's BAD for wanting credit for having helped her, but you are also saying that he should have given her more, so that he could have gotten more credit.

So out of one side of your mouth you seem to be complaining that he's trying to manipulate the situation for his own benefit, and out of the other side of your mouth you are suggesting that he should have manipulated it MORE for his own benefit.  Those are completely inconsistent statements.

Which one of us is delusional again?

Mark 12:42-44 "And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.

And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:

How is it relevant?

Well, let's look at the fact that this Congressman has voted to support taxpayer funded abortions, extend unemployment and issue federal loans to small businesses...all with YOUR money. His money is all tied up though. No one knows for sure how much he has. He probably isn't even paying taxes if all he's doing is reporting losses. You need to pay taxes though.
