When I start my 96 sable this morning the serpentine belt was not moving at all on its own while the engine was on.  It would move freely while the engine was running when I tried to move it with my hand and all pulleys moved freely.  I can see the pulley that drives the belt is spinning in the middle hut is not spinning the pulley itself.

Anyone have any advice because I am stumped.

Belt tensioner out?  Is the belt loose?  Vasolene on the crankshaft pulley?

Sounds like Rick's got it.

either that, or it could be a belt delamination

ETA: reading again, I'm guessing you can turn the belt freely around?   If so, yea, thats a harmonic balancer issue.... have fun.
