Well woke up today to find out that our AC unit died. Walked outside with my dad and the damn thing wasn't running. Tried the breakers and everything. Had to call the AC tech who came out and determined it needs a new compressor. Won't be here until Friday...with a week of 90 degree heat.

The temperature of my room when I got home from work at 11:30 at night. It's dropped 3 degrees since then. Fuck this noise.

Mine died last night.

I'm in a town home so only two sides are exposed to the heat.

I called, tech can out in less than an hour, and found a capacitor on the compressor was DOA.  Replaced it and now I'm in cool temps again.

$229 for a Saturday call out.

That's a dry heat

Someone will come out for a price.  Week w/o AC is worth a hundred bucks more to fix RFN, I'm done with that.

120F with no humidity is one thing. 94F with 90% humidity is a hell of a lot worse. I can take dry heat all day.

Uhm, the A.C. condenser in the truck went out 3-4 years ago.

It's not only hot while sitting in gridlocked traffic, but in the winter, or EVERYtime it rains, the moisture fogs on the inside.

Go take a cold shower.

This. Humidity is fucking brutal. I took a cold shower, got out, dried myself and was covered in sweat again.

Had my AC go out. Never got above 86 at least. We got off easy, only 1330 for parts and labor, plus a $50 tip. We needed a new compressor as well, however our system was quite old so we upgraded.

Then, last night the AC went out at work. That could have been really bad, except we have a backup AC. Always thought that was kind of wierd.

Go buy a window A/C unit at your favorite 24-hr WalMart.  Why suffer until Friday.

Honestly, don't want to spend the money. GF wants to go to the beach and I'm tight on money as it is. I've had friends offer to let me crash at their places, but I feel bad leaving my family to suffer through this.

Go get a window unit.  You can find them for $100.  As long as you dont live in a HOA, you can have it installed in 15 minutes.  I dont have central Air/Heat and its great.  Worst case scenario - a catastrophic failure, and then I go to the store and get another one for $200.  If you have central air and have a catastrophic failure, you cant even get the guy to come out for $200.  I only wish I could install one in the car easily.

You're not getting out of this without spending money.  If it's that humid, an improvised swamp cooler (ice suspended in front of a fan) probably won't work very well but might be worth a shot.

Have a friend that lives in an apartment complex?  Might be able to slip their maintenance man a fifty to get you going tomorrow.

Local Wal-Mart here has little window units for $94.00.
